Severe weather postpones Iowa-NU hoops game

Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) – The Big Ten men’s basketball game between the
Iowa Hawkeyes and the Northwestern Wildcats has been re-scheduled for
Thursday, February 15 due to severe weather in the Chicago region.

Heavy snow, high winds and dangerous driving conditions forced the
postponement of the game, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday. The
decision was made to ease any complications that the Wildcats could face
during their trip from Evanston.

Tip-off is set for 6:05 p.m. (et).

“Our first concern is always safety,” said Iowa athletic director Gary Barta.
“In this case it involves the safety of the student-athletes and staff of
Northwestern and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes.”

This appears to be the first time that an Iowa men’s basketball contest has
been postponed due to weather since January, 1979, when the Iowa-Indiana game
had to be played one day later than originally scheduled.
