Cougars edge rival Huskies

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) – Taylor Rochestie had 16 points and four assists
to lead the 10th-ranked Washington State Cougars to a 65-61 victory over the
Washington Huskies.

Derrick Low added 12 points while Ivory Clark added 10 points for the Cougars
(22-4, 11-4 Pac-10), who have won their last five games.

Spencer Hawes had 22 points while Jon Brockman added 15 points and 14
rebounds for the Huskies (16-9, 6-8), who had won five of six coming into the
game.

The game was tight throughout much of the second half, but Washington was
unable to catch up to Washington State.

Low put the Cougars ahead 62-58 with a three-pointer with 4:03 to go, but
Justin Dentmon countered with a trey with 3:31 left.

Low, though, followed with two free throws with 17 seconds to play after he
was fouled by Adrian Oliver for a 64-61 lead. Ryan Appleby then missed a
three-point attempt with three seconds left and the Cougars held on for the
win.

A late 10-1 run by Washington State in the first half helped the team to a
40-32 lead at halftime.

Game Notes

The Cougars shot just 38 percent in the game, but won the battle of the
boards, 36-26…Washington connected on 51 percent of its shots…Washington
State got 24 points from its bench, compared to just 2 for the Huskies.
