No. 9 Jayhawks destroy Cornhuskers
Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) – Brandon Rush had 13 points and eight rebounds
to lead the ninth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks to a 92-39 rout of the Nebraska
Cornhuskers at Allen Fieldhouse.
Darrell Arthur added 13 points while Sherron Collins donated 12 points in
the win for the Jayhawks (23-4, 10-2 Big 12), who have won their last four
Aleks Maric scored 14 points for the Cornhuskers (15-10, 4-7), who have
dropped two of their last three games.
Maric, though, was hurt in a collision under the basket with 12:25 left. He
went to the bench and did not return to the game.
The score was tight throughout much of the first half and the Cornhuskers
trailed, 20-18, after Maric slammed the ball home with 6:55 left in the
opening 20 minutes.
However, Collins scored the next six points and the Jayhawks closed the first
half with a 16-4 run and took a 36-22 lead into the locker room.
Nebraska got the first basket of the second half, but Kansas responded with 11
consecutive points before Charles Richardson stopped the bleeding with a
jumper with 14:12 to play.
The Jayhawks defense clamped down and limited the Cornhuskers to just five
baskets from the field for the remainder of the game as the Jayhawks led by as
many as 55 points in the remainder of the game.
Kansas leads the all-time series, 161-71…Mario Chalmers and Julian Wright
each had 10 points for Kansas…Kansas connected on 57 percent (35-of-61) of
its shots from the floor while Nebraska only hit 32 percent (16-of-50) of its
shots…Kansas dominated the boards, outrebounding Nebraska, 41-24.
