New Mexico to terminate McKay’s contract at season’s end

Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) – New Mexico head men’s basketball coach
Ritchie McKay will have his contract terminated at the conclusion of the
season, announced director of athletics Paul Krebs.

McKay and his staff will remain with the program through the final game of the
2006-07 campaign.

McKay became New Mexico’s 18th head coach on March 28, 2002 and has compiled
an 81-66 record into his fifth season with a 31-40 mark in the Mountain West

The Lobos are currently 15-13 and will travel to Utah on Saturday. Their final
home game is Wednesday against UNLV.

McKay’s best season with the Lobos came in 2004-05 when the team finished 26-7
and won the MWC tournament title en route to advancing to the NCAA Tournament
for the first time in six years.

The 11th-year collegiate head coach has a career record of 164-155 and also
coached at Portland State, Colorado State and Oregon State.
