Georgetown blasts Belmont; advances to play Boston College

Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) – Jessie Sapp scored 20 points and Jeff
Green added 15, leading Georgetown to an 80-55 victory over Belmont in the
first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Sapp drilled four three-pointers and finished 8-of-10 from the field for the
Big East champion Hoyas (27-6), who are seeded second in the East Region and
will next face Boston College in the second round on Saturday. The seventh-
seeded Eagles advanced earlier in the day with an 84-75 victory over Texas

Saturday’s matchup will mark the renewal of an old rivalry, as Boston College
was a long-time member of the Big East before leaving for the ACC. Georgetown
has an overall record of 43-27 against BC.

Andrew Preston scored 14 points for Belmont (23-10), which had won seven
straight games and captured the Atlantic Sun title to earn its second straight
NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bruins suffered a 78-44 loss to UCLA in their
inaugural NCAA appearance last year.
