Detroit Pistons Drop One to Orlando Magic on the Road

Detroit Pistons Drop One to Orlando Magic on the Road

The Orlando Magic took care of business Wednesday night on their home court in Game Three of their second round matchup against The Detroit Pistons. Rashard Lewis scored a career playoff high 33 points for The Magic in an emotional 111-86 win in front of their home crowd. Dwight Howard put up big numbers again with 20 points, 12 rebounds while racking up 6 impressive blocked shots in the much needed win for the Magic.

Orlando stuck Detroit hard right from the tip, leading in the first with a score of 20 – 3. The Pistons had just one field goal over the first eight minutes of the game and to make matters worse for Detroit, Chauncey Billups went down after just three minutes in the game with a hamstring injury and didn’t return.  Detroit  was awful in the first quarter making just 2 of their 15 field goal attempts to start the game.  Thankfully for the Pistons a late third quarter surge from had Detroit within three points.  The Magic however played hard and took off by opening the fourth quarter with 11 consecutive points to basically put the game away.

Turkoglu and Nelson each scored 18 points for the Magic, who took advantage of Detroit’s start, and the fact that their leader was absent from the game.  Richard Hamilton, who started show led the Pistons with 24 points , while Tayshaun Prince had 22.  With Billups out, rookie Rodney Stuckey stepped up for Detroit by scoring 19 points. Impressive game for the rookie,  but without Billups Detroit looked out of sync.

Detroit could have used a big game from Rasheed Wallace, who got heated early and sat with foul trouble early in the game. Sheed played just 27 minutes and was 4-for-15 from the floor for just 11 points and 4 boards.

The series is now 2-1 and Orland has a chance to tie it up on their home court on Saturday.  They still have to take on a gritty Detroit team who may or may not have Chauncey Billups back in the lineup. Billups is listed as day to day with a hamstring injury.
