Allen Iverson to Be Traded to Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb
After being smacked upside the head by the million and one rumours surrounding Allen Iverson’s fate, I was a tad reticent to believe this morning’s report that he was on his way to MoTown. It transpires, however, that this one was more than just hot air, with the Nuggets and Pistons apparently having agreed in principle to a deal which will send A.I. to Detroit for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb.
As someone who believed the Iverson-Anthony pairing could have proven fruitful with a little perseverance, I’m a little disappointed to see that Denver have pulled the plug on the experiment so soon. Still, there won’t be too many complaints in the Mile-High City as the deal sends them a Colorado native in Billups and a former fan favourite in McDyess.
Oh, and Cheikh Samb. If you’re not familiar with Samb (or "Cheikh Louch" as I like to call him), he’s a 7’1” centre from Senegal who spent all but four games of his rookie season in the D-league. With the exception of an eleven-block triple-double in February, C.S. hasn’t done a whole lot to make the world pay attention. With Denver’s deficiencies at the five, however, he may see a little more action up in the Rockies than he did in Auburn HIlls.
So, what do you think of this trade? Is it a desperation move for the Detroit Pistons? Did the Denver Nuggets give up on Allen Iverson too soon? Who got the better end of this deal? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box.
