HoopsVibe’s Sprite Slam Dunk Contest Promo Video
If you’re an NBA fan, you’ve no doubt seen Sprite’s recent series of commercials promoting the 2010 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest this weekend in Dallas. If not, check out the clip below. I’ll wait.
Well, in developing the series Sprite contacted a number of groups to produce their own version of the spot. HoopsVibe was not one of them. Feeling left out, we contacted our parent company to ask if they could find some space in the budget for us to record a commercial of our own. They declined. Undeterred, we called some of our friends and relatives to see if they would lend us a camera. They would not.
We’re a plucky crew here, though, and so we went out and shot a spot anyway. Using the latest in cellphone camera technology, we managed to record a professional-grade promo piece that you can see exclusively here at HoopsVibe.com.
Duration: 55 seconds
Location: the stoop in front of my building
Budget: $1.50 (soda); director forfeited fee by quitting
– The first take was ruined by children frolicking in the background.
– Production ran six weeks over schedule and $1.50 over budget.
– Renée Zellweger was initially slated to play the part of C.Y. Ellis.
– The director ultimately quit due to "creative differences" and snow melting in her sneakers.
