An NBA Finals for the Ages
No matter who your team is, if you're a fan of the NBA, you're looking forward to this year's NBA Finals.
Hoopsvibe's Very Quick Call: This is going to the most entertaining NBA Finals in a long time.
Game 1 of this year's NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat is tomorrow night in Oklahoma City. Tip off is at 9:00 P.M. EST. It is the matchup that has been talked about since the beginning of this shortened NBA season; and the matchup that we've all wanted to see.
Reigning NBA MVP Lebron James versus reigning NBA Scoring Champion Kevin Durant.
It will be only the 5th time since 1967 and the first time in 15 years that the league's MVP and scoring champion will face each other in the finals. (The scoring champion has won 3 out of the 4 times since '67, mind you). But the last time this happened was in 1997, when Michael Jordan (then the scoring champ) and the Bulls went on to beat league MVP Karl Malone and the Utah Jazz.
And with a ton on the line for both Durant and James, who each have yet to win a title, both superstars have insisted that they are focused on doing whatever they can to help their teams prevail - and that this is much more than an individual matchup series.
"Everybody is going to make the most out of the matchup of me versus Lebron, but it's the Thunder versus the Heat. One guy versus another guy, it's not going to be a 1-on-1 matchup to win the series, it's going to be all about the team," Durant said.
Lebron was quoted saying, "This whole season I got back to what I'm capable of doing, and that's having fun and believing in myself and my teammates."
But we all get it. While it's going to be extremely important to get solid play out of the supporting casts from each team, this series is going to come down to who's more dominant: Durant or James.
And no matter what side of the fence you're on, or who you're rooting for, it's going to be one hell of a series to watch.
"I think it's going to be a great matchup," Miami's Dwayne Wade said. He went on to comment, "I think it's going to bring the best out of both of them (meaning James and Durant), and it's going to be the best for the game. It's going to be a great show."
A show I personally can't wait to watch.
