Iowa, Kentucky and Texas highlight Guardians Classic field

Princeton, NJ (Sports Network) - Iowa, Kentucky, Texas, and West Virginia are the schools hosting the regional rounds of the Guardians Classic, to be held this November.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches is the sponsor of the event, which features 16 teams.

"This event exemplifies the strength and positive message from our Guardians of the Game program," said Jim Haney, Executive Director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. "The 2005 Guardians Classic will demonstrate the positive nature of college basketball, the role coaches play in the lives of student-athletes, and the contributions that coaches make to their communities."

The tournament starts November 12 with games in Morgantown, as West Virginia plays Louisiana Monroe and Fairleigh Dicksinson tangles with Wofford.

Kentucky will play South Dakota State on November 13 at Rupp Arena, while Lipscomb faces Northern Colorado.

On November 14, Iowa faces Maryland-Eastern Shore and Colgate plays Utah Valley State at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

On November 15 in Austin, Texas battles Southern, and Samford goes against Sacramento State.

The championship rounds will be held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. The semifinals will take place November 21 and the final the following night.

Creighton won the Guardians Classic last year, defeating Ohio State, 65-63, in overtime.
