Gray guides Pitt past Huskies

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Aaron Gray poured in a game-high 24 points
and grabbed 14 rebounds as fourth-ranked Pittsburgh rolled past Northeastern,
78-52, at Petersen Events Center.
Gray finished 11-of-16 shooting while Antonio Graves added 15 points for the Panthers (3-0). Pittsburgh shot 51 percent from the field. Eugene Spates scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Bennet Davis had 12 points and five boards for the Huskies (0-2). The Panthers opened the first half with a 15-2 run, capped by a Keith Benjamin jumper. Gray led the charge with eight points during the 7:15 spurt. Northeastern, though, cut it to 22-17 when Spates drained a three with 7:27 remaining. Pittsburgh then scored 13 straight points en route to a 38-24 halftime advantage. Gray finished with 17 points in the first frame. Mike Cook's layup finished a 16-4 burst by the Panthers 4:39 into the second half. Pittsburgh continued to pad its lead and was never threatened by the Huskies, who trailed the rest of the frame by 20-plus points. Northeastern finished a dismal 35 percent shooting.
