Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Brandan Wright scored 20 points, and the eighth- ranked North Carolina Tar Heels routed the Boston College Eagles, 71-56, in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

Tyler Hansbrough grabbed 13 rebounds and scored nine points for the top-seeded Tar Heels (27-6), who advanced to their first ACC title game since 2001. Wayne Ellington and Ty Lawson added 10 points each for UNC, which will face 10th- seeded Virginia Tech on Sunday for the championship.

Sean Marshall scored 23 points for the fourth-seeded Eagles (20-11), who struggled to a 35 percent shooting performance, and trailed by as much as 20 points in the second half. Jared Dudley finished with 20 points and six rebounds for BC.

"I thought our defense was better today than it's been in a while," said Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams.

A Danny Green jumper at the 16:43 mark of the second half boosted the Tar Heels lead to 48-28. BC chipped away at the deficit, and managed to mount a 13-2 run midway through the half to cut to within nine points. Seven straight points by Marshall capped the stretch, including a trey with 13:01 left that pulled the Eagles to within 50-41.

UNC quickly snuffed out any hopes for an upset, though, with Reyshawn Terry drilling a three to spur a 12-3 run, which Ellington finished with a three to push the Carolina lead back to 62-44 at the nine-minute mark. The Eagles never threatened down the stretch.

BC came out ice-cold, shooting only 24 percent for the first half as the Tar Heels built up a large lead. A 13-4 UNC run, capped by a Wright jumper, pushed the Tar Heels lead to 21-9 with 8:44 left in the half.

"We got down early and we kept fighting, but made too many mental mistakes and missed layups early," said Marshall.

The Eagles did not have any answers offensively for UNC, and their deficit bulged at 38-20 in the final minute, before a Tyrese Rice three with 34 seconds left sent BC into the break trailing 38-23.
