Report: Dwight Howard To Lakers Is Official!
Dwight Howard has officially been traded to the LA Lakers in a four team deal.
HoopsVibe Very Quick Call: Are we dreaming? Did this deal actually, finally go down? I almost don't believe it.
How many times have we, as spectators of Dwight Howard's force job out of Orlando, gotten to the 11th hour on a promising, "can't miss" deal only to be left at the altar by the "runaway bride" of false rumor? At least 10, right?
Here are the details of the four team trade involving the Lakers, Magic, 76ers and Nuggets.
The Lakers get Howard, the Nuggets get Andre Iguodala, the 76ers get Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson and the Magic get Aaron Afflalo, Al Harrington and Nikola Vucevic as well as one protected fiorst round pick from each of the other three teams and 76ers number one draft pick Moe Harkless. A pretty great haul for the Magic considering keeping Howard for another year would've equated to a wasted season, which would have been compounded by them not being able to re-sign him after the season, anyway.
Other interesting points to consider from the trade:
- Howard will not immediately sign an extension with the Lakers and would be eligible to become a free agent after the season.
- The Lakers still get to keep Pau Gasol; who would've expected that? Especially after he was dealt to Houston and the Lakers seemed so hell-bent on shipping him out.
So much for the Lakers being too old and slow, like they looked at the end of the playoffs. Adding Nash and Howard is just insane, and makes them the immediate favorites in the Western Conference. Add those two pieces to Kobe, Gasol, and Metta World Peace, who is going to stop them?
