Kenyon Martin Returning to New Jersey Nets?

In an interesting turn of events, it appears as if Kenyon Martin may be on his way back to the New Jersey Nets. Having limped through a disappointing year with the Nuggets on a surgically-repaired knee, the man once picked first in the NBA draft seems to be missing his buddies.

Kenyon Martin sat behind the Nets’ bench during Games 1 and 2 and his unannounced visit came as a surprise to his old teammates. Was Martin in South Beach for pleasure or business, or both?

Was he trying to remind the Nets of what they miss so much and what they can possibly have again?

Two Nets sources said the team has and will continue to discuss whether obtaining Martin this summer is realistic and feasible.

Kenyon Martin Returning to New Jersey Nets?

While the thought of a starting line-up of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Kenyon Martin and Nenad Krstic may have folks in Dirty Jersey salivating, Martin’s $11.8 million salary appears to be a prohibitive factor here. If K-Mart does find himself back at the Meadowlands next year, it would likely require the departure of one of the Nets’ four-man core, though it’s not yet clear if management is sufficiently confident in his potential to return to form that they’d part ways with one of their big names for him.
Nets president Rod Thorn says he does not want to trade Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson or Nenad Krstic unless a superstar comes back in return. He would like to reload through free agency and the draft, but this year’s free-agency crop is Shawn Bradley-like thin.

He may not rejoin JKidd and company, but what’s clear is that Martin has almost certainly played his last game with the Denver Nuggets. Where, then, will Kenyon Martin end up this summer? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment in the box below.
