Say What? Big-shot Bob does it again. Robert Horry, the Spurs’ wily veteran, preserves San Antonio’s game five win by knocking down another key shot … Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker have solid games … And why would the Spurs’ defense cheat on Steve Blake? … Click here for all this and so much more ….
What Happened: Big-shot Bob has struck again. With time winding down, hit a three-pointer from the corner to lock-up 96-89 win over . The Spurs now lead the series 3-1.
led San Antonio with 22 points. chipped in with 18 points, while added 15 points.
The Nuggets had a 10-point second-half advantage, but let the Spurs back into the game with a poor fourth quarter.
led Denver with 29 points. had 22 points, but struggled from the floor, making just 9-of-25 shots. had 18 points, while scored 13 points to go with 17 rebounds.
This game was close. Denver got great individual efforts from several players. But San Antonio’s clutch play and defense sealed the victory.
Game five is Wednesday in San Antonio.
My Take: I think San Antonio wins this game for two reasons. First, they have a great end-of-game closer in Robert Horry. Big-shot Bob is different from your typical closer. He’s not an All-Star. His minutes go up-and-down. And he’s getting old. But Horry’s absolutely money come crunch-time. You saw this on Monday night.
Second, the Spurs are backing off Steve Blake and daring the point guard to shoot. Right now, Blake is missing open shots-he was a disappointing 1-for-6 in game five-allowing the Spurs to cheat over on Iverson and Anthony. The floating defender bothered Iverson’s shooting in game four. Blake has to make his shots to keep the defense honest.
A 3-1 deficit will be tough for Denver to overcome. They’ve been close. But they have to give a more consistent effort or this series ends Wednesday night in San Antonio.
