LeBron James & Daniel Gibson Lead Cleveland Cavaliers To Game Four Win, Chauncey Billups & Detroit Pistons Struggle

May 29th, 2007
For the second straight game, LeBron James silenced his critics ... He scored 12 points in the decisive fourth quarter to lead the Cavaliers to a 91-87 win over the Pistons, the Eastern Conference finals now heads back to Detroit tied 2-2 ... Who is Daniel Gibson anyway? ... Click here for your recap, reaction, and analysis ... What Happened: The used a big fourth quarter to pull away from the and win game four of the Eastern Conference finals 91-87 on Tuesday evening at Quickens Arena.

once again silenced his critics, scoring 13 of his 25 points in the final frame. He also added seven rebounds and 11 assists.

But James wasn’t the only Cavalier who performed down the stretch. , a rookie drafted in the second round, continued his strong play, going 12-for-12 from the free throw line and finishing with 21 points overall.

chipped in with 19 points and eight rebounds. He also played strong interior defense on Detroit’s Rasheed Wallace.

paced the Pistons with 23 points. However, the all-star point guard disappeared in the second-half, scoring just five points and missing several shots.

scored 19, while had 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Cavaliers received an emotional spark from Larry Hughes, who played despite suffering from a plantar fascia tear in his foot. Hughes logged 17 minutes of court time.

With the win, Cleveland tied the series at 2-2. Game five is Friday in Detroit.

Reaction of Cleveland forward Lebron James on why he stepped-up in the fourth period:
"The series is a lot better being 2-2 than 3-1 and going back to Detroit. I had to be aggressive in the fourth quarter and step up. Last year was about making the playoffs. This year, it's about a championship.''

Reaction of Cleveland guard Daniel Gibson on playing against his childhood idol Chauncey Billups:
"I just tried to step up and do some of those things he (Billups) does."

My Quick Take: This series changed once Cleveland’s supporting cast started making shots. The Cavaliers are playing classic basketball. They are not running complicated plays. Just isolating James on the perimeter, allowing him to create and kick the ball to open teammates.

It’s basic basketball. And it works, especially when James’ teammates are making shots.

Consider that Gooden knocked down three baseline jumpers in the fourth quarter. Gibson went 4-for-7 from the floor. Donyell Marshall hit 3-of-5 shots.

Cleveland plays such strong defense that a simple create-and-kick offense is enough to win.

NBATV touched on this topic following game four. The Cavalier organization deserves credit for finding James quality role players in Gibson, Sasha Pavlovic, and Anderson Varejao. And this supporting cast comes from unlikely places.

Cleveland drafted Gibson with the 42nd pick in the 2005-06 draft. For the last few games, as Gibson has nailed several big shots, analysts have been stumped by this kid’s game. Is he a point guard? Is he a lead guard? Who does he play like?

Gibson reminds me of former Chicago combo guard B.J. Armstrong. Consider that Gibson and Armstrong are the same size, possess some point guard instincts, and have deadly outside range.

and were both plucked from back-water international leagues.

This speaks to the type of organization Cleveland has become under GM Danny Ferry.

All they need is one in the palace and the playoffs are done. they take it in game 6 at home, and then face the spurs who they have a winning record against. Lebron puts up over 20 every game and theres no stopping him anymore
