It’s almost embarrassing. USA Basketball is stocked with individual talent and should easily qualify for the 2008 Olympics in China. However,  Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Brazil, Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Venezuela stand in their way at the upcoming FIBA Americas Tournament.

So who are these other teams? What international players should American hoop fans keep an eye on? In the newest edition of Listed, HoopsVibe The Blog decided to drop five players that could give USA Basketball problems.

As always, get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

1) Carlos Arroyo.

National Team: Puerto Rico.

NBA Run: Currently with the .

The Deal: Arroyo is an NBA back-up. With Puerto Rico, he’ll get minutes and the opportunity to showcase his ball handling and passing.  Arroyo will entertain.

2) Leandro Barbosa, Nene, and Anderson Vaerjao.

National Team: Brazil.

NBA Run: Currently with the , , and .

The Deal: NBA fans will be familiar with this trio. Barbosa, Nene, and Varejao all have distinct styles. Look for them to make an impact in Las Vegas.

3) Sam Dalembert.

National Team: Canada.

NBA Run: Currently with the .

The Deal: No Steve Nash. No Jamaal Magloire. So look for Dalembert, a raw center with the 76ers, to clog-up the middle and grab rebounds. I caught up with the big post after the Steve Nash Charity Classic. He’s excited about suiting up for Canada.

4) Carl English.

National Team: Canada.

NBA Run: Late training camp cut of the Indiana Pacers and Seattle SuperSonics.

The Deal: A few years back, the Pacers cut English and signed James Jones to their fifteenth and final guaranteed contract. Since Indiana, the combo guard has spent time in the NBDL and Europe. English’s NBA range could cause problems.

5) Louis Scola.

National Team: .

NBA Run: Just signed with the .

The Deal: Scola has dominated the European professional ranks and international tournaments. He’ll make an impact with the Rockets this season. And he’ll also be Argentina’s go-to player because several of their NBA stars are sitting out the qualifying tournament.
