The Problem With Respect: Ben Gordon & Chicago Bulls Talk Contract
|
I worry when athletes talk of wanting "respect" from their contract. Sure, the money symbolizes their worth to the team. But the "respect-card" puts an unhealthy emotion into a business transaction. After all, the NBA is a business. Ben Gordon has his head on straight. I like his game and attitude. He deserves a lucrative contract from the Bulls. But if "respect" means a max contract, then he could be out of luck ...
The Journal News reports on Ben Gordon wanting a new contract:
My Quick Take: Warning: athlete has used the word "respect" in contract negotiations. Fans, management, and reporters are advised to proceed cautiously as the situation could get ugly. I worry when athletes talk of wanting "respect" from their contract. Sure, the money symbolizes their worth to the team. But the "respect-card" puts an unhealthy emotion into a business transaction. After all, the NBA is a business.has his head on straight. I like his game and attitude. He deserves a lucrative contract from the Bulls. But if "respect" means a max contract, then he could be out of luck. is a deep and balanced team. They are a contender-by-committee; the NBA's version of an ensemble movie. With so many key players, the Bulls have wisely saved cap space. They can compensate Gordon fairly, but they can't pay him much more than Kirk Hinrich. The club must also maintain cap room to sign star and youngsters like like Tyrus Thomas and Thabo Sefolosha. Will the Bulls' offer be enough for Gordon? If not, will he feel disrespected? What happens then? Chicago is in a tough spot. They must pay Gordon fairly. They must make him feel respected. But they must also maintain enough cap space to sign most of their players and stay competitive. Should Ben Gordon get a max contract from the Chicago Bulls? As clutch and fearless a player Ben Gordon is, the Bulls would be better off finding the right trading partner to take on the undersized guard. Gordon's value is pretty high right now -- the perfect time to trade for a back-to-the-basket post player, or draft picks. Deng is ready to step up and become the team's leading scorer next year, and they need to add some size at the SG spot -- time to trade Gordon. report abuse

The bulls are notorious for breaking up a team of young studs. This in the same team who had Eddy Curry, Brad Miller, Tyson Chandler, Elton Brand, Ron Artest, Mike miller, Jamal Crawford, and now they could possibly lose another one on there top players. True indeed Deng will be a great scorer but just like labron and melo before Iverson showed up, they need other great scorers around to take the pressure off. The bulls seem to just want to be competitive but they really don't like winning because when you are winning you end up paying your players. They are really gonna be hurting if he desides to leave and end up with the Magic, pistons or the cavs!! report abuse

If Don Cheadle ("Star") isn't part of "Ocean's 11" do you miss him if Eddie Griffin ("Lesser Star") takes his place? report abuse

Good defense by the Chicago Bulls drama boys, if only we could patch up the difference, this will be a Chicago good season. They are running, switching in defense, rebounding see those efforts. We don't have yet the Bulls team down. I which I could see some Bulls games live. I was looking for tickets all the good seats on ticketmaster were taken I had to check broker. And man you don't want to do that especially for the Chicago Bulls. Thanks god there sites like Ticketwood which work as comparators here is the site Bulls Ticketshttp://www.ticketwood.com/nba/Chicago-Bulls-Tickets.php.
