Yesterday, Kanye West and Fifty Cent went head-to-head, releasing their third albums on the exact same day. Like Wednesday GM, hip-hop heads had to pick between the Luis Vutton Don and ‘he got shot nine times.’
Wednesday GM lets you make personnel decisions like an NBA GM. Don’t like Los Angeles GM Mitch Kupchak? Think Isiah Thomas has run the Knicks into the ground?
Well, now is your chance to make the call. You replace the hack GM you bitch about occupying space in the front office. This week, we’re dropping the retro edition of Wednesday GM. Get comfy in your new GM post and tell us what old-school, eighties baller you prefer in the comment box below.
Picking Between Hall Of Fame Point Guards
Decision 1: Magic Johnson or John Stockton.
The Details: A pair of all-time greats at lead guard. But Magic and Stockton couldn’t be more different. Johnson was a big, flashy table-setter for L.A., while Stockton was a smaller playmaker, who ran Utah’s offense with precision.
The Call: Stockton is the all-time assists leader, but Magic gets the nod because of his five NBA Titles.
His Airness Versus The Glyde
Decision 2: Michael Jordan or Clyde Drexler.
The Details: Two of the NBA’s most exciting players. Jordan ran things in Chicago, winning six NBA Titles and transcending basketball. Drexler dominated in Portland and then secured his greatness by winning an NBA Title with the Rockets.
The Call: Drexler was superb. But Jordan was, and still is, The Man. I’ll take His Airness for my team.
The Admiral, Pat, Or The Dream
Decision 3: David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, or Hakeem Olajuwon.
The Details: Three dominant posts. Robinson and Ewing breathed life into San Antonio and New York. And Olajuwon was huge in Houston.
The Call: Robinson and Olajuwon edge out Ewing because of their two NBA Titles. Sorry Pat, but rings count. Picking between The Admiral and The Dream is virtually impossible. In fact, I can’t, so it’s a draw.
Chuck D Or The Oil Slick
Decision 4: Chuck Daly or Pat Riley.
The Details: Daly led the Pistons to back-to-back NBA Titles. But Riley became a star roaming L.A.’s sideline and winning four NBA Titles with the purple-and-gold.
The Call: Riley would coach my team. He has more NBA Titles than Daly and a certain panache.
Shoe Giants Setting Off The Kick Culture
Decision 5: Converse or Nike Ads.
The Call: Mars Blackman and Nike. McHale and Bird set white rappers back another ten years with their lines.
