 Once upon a time, New York cheered the dad. Last night, New York cheered the son. In a pure throwback moment, a nostalgic Madison Square Garden celebrated Patrick Ewing Jr. getting minutes against New Jersey by chanting ‘Pat-rick Ewing’. The chant was partially a salute to his father, a famous post with the Knicks during the nineties. But it was also a salute to the offspring, who energized the crowd with two dunks and a three-pointer in limited minutes. Ewing Jr., a second round pick in the 2008 draft, is fighting to make the club he grew up around. Anthony Robertson, his main competition for the final roster spot, has struggled in training camp. So the MSG faithful could cheer the son with more old school ‘Pat-rick Ewing' chants come regular season.

Hey folks, Thanks for reading and commenting ... I don't know if Ewing Jr is a star in the making ... he has shown enough athleticism to be a rotation player. Hopefully, the knicks keep him and reap some good publicity after so much drama! What do you guys think: is Ewing Jr a potential star in the making or rotation player? Out .. report abuse

He's probably not a star in the making but he has enough skills, quickness and athleticism to be effective in the NBA, even if its just by coming off the bench. On the fastbreak he would be a TRUE weapon, one of the best finishers in the open court. Plus he is a hard worker and plays with enthusiasm. And he will play defense. He'll be good for a lot of teams but he could really be an asset in D'Antoni's system. report abuse

Lets see.. who has more upside over the next 7 years? PE Jr. or Malik Rose? PE Jr. or Jerome James? PE Jr. or Stephon Marbury?Can we please cut these vets to make room for youth. At least J James? And really, why not Marbury? Are we going to help him get a big deal for next year while developing players play less minutes? report abuse

Hi Paul ... I agree ... Great point! All the talk has been about cutting either Robertson or PE jr. Why not keep both, bite the bullet and release a veteran who doesn't fit long-term or even past the next few months. Perhaps, PE jr's emergence will force the Knicks hand to inititate changes. It's cheaper to cut one of them even though they are what the knicks need right now. But thanks to pill poppin Thomas, signing one hit wonder Jerome James to a contract taking a that kind of hit so he can play else where sucks.
