'Big Baby' Problem? Could Glen Davis-Kevin Garnett incident impact Boston's season?Breaking NBA news mixed with analysis …

Our Quick Analysis: Last night, Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis lived up to his nickname. Literally. Yes, a grown man was crying on Coach Rivers’ bench.

The Celtics had a comfortable fourth quarter lead over the Blazers, so the second-unit was getting  playing time. Reserves, like Davis, weren’t meeting superstar Kevin Garnett’s expectations. During a timeout, ‘The Big Ticket’ gave all the backups, especially Davis, a verbal tongue-lashing, which led to the puffy-post crying.

I don’t know if this influences Boston’s season. However, Garnett, even if his ‘pep’ talk was justified, must remember his legendary intensity impacts different individuals in different ways. After all, these were teammates, colleagues, and friends, not telemarketers hitting him up in the middle of a family dinner.

Davis must mature. But there is no guarantee the Celtics sign another P.J. Brown type veteran late-season, so they need all their young forwards to have confidence for the playoffs. Yelling at and embarrassing ‘Big Baby’ publicly, even though that wasn’t Garnett’s intent, doesn’t  achieve this goal.
