Breaking NBA news mixed with analysis ...

Their News: "The makeover of the Los Angeles Clippers may include a former scoring champion. The team is in "very serious" talks with Allen Iverson on a contract, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday." (ESPN.com news services)

Our Very Quick Analysis: Allen Iverson joining the Los Angeles Clippers would be a mutually beneficial arrangement for the player and team.

After getting run out of Detroit, Iverson would regain first-option status in a major market, even if it’s with the lowly Clippers. Unlike Motown, the ten-time All-Star would get to treat Mike Dunleavy’s offensive sets like an all-you-can-shoot-smorgasbord without any consequences.

Los Angeles would get a former MVP at the Mid Level Exception. Iverson, for about $6 million, would make the league’s laughingstock sort of relevant, sell tickets, and, most importantly, take some pressure off first overall pick Blake Griffin.

Frankly, Iverson and Donald Sterling’s club are running out of options. Small markets teams like the Bobcats and Grizzlies don't provide enough of a stage for A.I to mount his comeback, while the have-not Clippers need a marketing shtick to survive in a city with the have Lakers.

In the short-term, Iverson would be ‘The Answer’ for Los Angeles’ other team. And vice-versa.

I really don't understand why people are acting like A.I. is not still THE man! He is getting such bad rap for the misfortunes of his former teams. Sure, Denver blew up after the trade for Billups, yet what stopped them from doing that when A.I. was there? Anthony, who everyone praised during the playoffs was not even the best player on the Nuggets when A.I. was there. Iverson carried that team often with more help from Smith and Klieza than Anthony. And in Detroit, he fell victim to a rookie coach that was in way over his head. If he wasn't then he'd still be coaching in Detroit!Allen Iverson is the man and he has a Ton of game left in him... recognize!!!

Hi 40-inch leaper, Yeah, I like eric gordon, too. However, Gordon will probably still start and Ai will come off the bench. At least, that's the plan according to media reports, but who knows? Thanks for commenting.

i dont think ai will fit. they should just develop eric gordon and blake griffin, then try to move marcus camby and baron davis. they could this year's portland bec of their youth. and ai, he wont get a championship with the clips. considering his age and health, he should go with a contender (even though its really hard to think of a team for him). ai still has it, but he should go with a contender. plus the clips are in the west, playing with the lakers, blazers, jazz, spurs, mavs, etc meaning less chances to make the playoffs... and he needs the ball to be effective, meaning it would be hard for the other guys to develop. and they also got baron, another guy who needs the ball. ai should go somewhere else if he wants a ring...

iverson to the clippers=baron davis unhappy, eric gordon unhappy, al thorton unhappy, blake griffin unhappy.... as soon as the clippers look like they are going to put out a suitable team some stupid stuff happens. unfortunately the whole roster seemed injured last year which ruined that. now they are healthy yet they wanna go ahead and win 20 games with the possible addition of iverson? clippers should be banned from the nba that right there is the worst organization in all professional sports worldwide!!!

& trust me oly, iverson 1 month ago said that he would rather retire than come off the bench... a few months before that when the decision was made for him to do so, he started saying all his accolades then saying "you want a 4 time scorer, mvp to come off the bench?" iverson is done in this league. go ahead and take your 20 million and 25 shots a game elsewhere a.i.

Just because you dislike a player, does not make him a bad player. Iverson could fit in with this team. Their chemistry can't get any worse. They had at least 4 all-star talented players and couldn't win at ALL, much less get to the playoffs. Smart to move Zach Randolph. Eric Gordon is a great example of someone who should be a spark of the bench.. ie Janero Pargo... or Rudy Fernandez. BD, AI, Thornton, Griffin, Camby or Kaman is a great balance of age, talent, athleticism and ability. Give the MVP a shot, your team needs ALL the help it can get.

I still think Allen Iverson is a great ball player. Even after last season when he signed with the Pistons! I'm a Piston fan and I was excited about the trade because I thought this would give us the spark that our team here in Detroit has lost! Alot of people didnt like the trade but if you where here watching our team play half hearted you would have wanted something to happen as well! The hiring of coach curry is what happened in Detroit plus Laxed players with a pocket full of money! Anyway A.I is a star but he is on star that should stay away from the forever rebuilding clippers!I would love to see him on the Utah Jazz with a veteran proven Coach who needs a scoring guard that can contend every night! The Jazz hasnt had a scoring guard since Jeff Hornacek. As a fan anywhere A.I goes I'll have his jersey he may not be the greatest but has been great to watch over the years!!!

The only help that Iverson can bring to the Clippers is financial; he'll put money in the owner pockets. Iverson is a selfish player that won't change his game to help any team win. Iverson is a stat guy and the only thing he want to win is a scoring title and collect his millions.
