Nike still stinks even after returning LeBron James dunk tapes

Breaking NBA news mixed with analysis…

Their News: “Nike says it is returning videotapes it confiscated of LeBron James getting dunked on at a recent basketball camp.” (ESPN.com via Associated Press)

Our Very Quick Take: Thanks Nike. However, it’s too little, too late.

After much debate and a leaked internet clip from gossip-rag TMZ, Nike announced they’ll return journalists’ videos of college sensation Jordan Crawford dunking on ‘Swoosh’ spokesperson and reigning NBA MVP LeBron James near Indiana University.

Of course, this reinforces how silly Nike was for initially seizing the tapes and trying to sweep the poster-job in question under the rug. The multinational has been criticized by reporters, fans, and, in the end, had to bow to public pressure and give back what they had no right to take or try to censor.

Here’s the ironic part: Nike’s actions have tarnished James’ image far more than some dunk in a meaningless summer run.
