LeBron James has officially tabbed Charles Barkley as stupid.
"If I was LeBron James, I would shut the hell up," the Hall of Famer said on Patrick’s show. "I’m a big LeBron fan. He’s a stud. You gotta give him his props. I’m getting so annoyed he’s talking about what he’s going to do in two years. I think it’s disrespectful to the game. I think it’s disrespectful to the Cavaliers."
"He’s stupid. That’s all I’ve got to say about that," James said Friday night before the Cavaliers’ game against Golden State.
This was all referring to the mythical 2010 free agent year. Point black, LeBron did not hide any feelings. I understand where Bron is coming from. Media people always ride his ass constantly about that particular off season just like how Bart and Lisa Simpson kept on nagging Homer during a road trip with “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?”
No, really. ARE WE THERE YET?
2010 is not here yet.
Sorry, Amare. I know you want to be “that guy” for 2010, but you’re not. Most scenarios (if not all) of the 2010 possibilities revolve around that guy in Cleveland for general managers and fans across the country. This one man show can singlehandedly carry a team on his back to the Finals. I know that STAT can’t do that although it would be nice if he come to the Bulls since their front court is atrocious.
Take note. It’s easy to say that James can squash all of this by saying “Please don’t ask me about 2010. It’s a long time away. I’m still a Cavalier doing what I can to help us win. Direct all inquiries to my agent.” But James and his agent know what they’re doing. Why do they do this? They love to flirt to have fans masturbating over James being in their team jersey. It’s the hype train at work raising more hype to get the biggest baddest deal ever. They’re aiming for a $25 million dollar per season deal with added incentives. You’d figure Sir Charles would know, but then again, he probably figures that James doesn’t even have to do this since everyone and their mama know who he is.
Perhaps this is all done to feed James’ ego. After all, James is the one who keeps the door left ajar of the possibility of leaving with little nuggets such as this:
As for LeBron leaping to the Knicks in 2010, he insisted, "You have to stay open-minded if you are a Knicks fan.”
I agree with Charles Barkley. Not everything that LeBron does is gold (he got bronze in 2004). Everybody in the basketball world knows what’s at stake here. He will get an uber max money deal no matter what. While Charles is a controversial loudmouth (can’t blame him because that’s who he is), LeBron should have just Rasheed Wallace’d everyone, “Both teams played hard.” All of this useless going back and forth doesn’t help his reputation. There’s no point arguing with a retired player. Would Michael Jordan do this?
Was Barkley right in telling James to shut up? Yes. Someone has to, but not in that way. Think about it. Openly pondering about 2010, which is 2 years from now, to the media will make people question about your loyalty and priorities. This usually doesn’t end well. Keep your mouth shut, LeBron. Do you want the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase to stuff money down your throat to keep you quiet? James is distracting and disrespecting his team. Barkley is right, but he should have used a better set of words.
Or then again, LeBron might be purposely making teams think they have a legit shot at him. They clear cap space and some players, but by the time comes to sign Bron, he already re-signed with Cleveland. Those teams have weakened. Bron can now cruise to the Finals. Is LeBron this diabolical to do such a thing? I’m not sure because there are a slew of other really good free agents out there so this plan can backfire.
All I know is LeBron is not on Charles’ fave five. Charles wouldn’t have to hear James over the phone explaining how stupid Barkley is. Perhaps that’s the only way for LeBron to shut the hell up.
What do you think? Was Barkley right in telling James to shut up? Was James right in saying that Barkley is stupid?
