Who made your All Star reserves for the 08-09 season? Vol. Stat Stuffers on bad teams or small markets.

Who made your All Star reserves for the 08-09 season? Vol. Stat Stuffers on bad teams or small markets. We didn’t learn much, did we? I’m looking at the 4th all star voting returns and NBA fans are still stupid. How are Nick Collison and Ben Wallace getting votes? I trashed Luke Ridnour before, and rightfully so, he sucks. If you want proof, look at his game logs. There’s no need for me to go in any further unless he wants to be grouped with Dan Dickau. The thing that pisses me off is that Nick Collison is actually listed with votes. Nowhere do I see his superior teammate Kevin Durant.

So how is Collison getting votes? This is how people are thinking before voting, “I’m from Kansas and he’s from Kansas, too. Voting for him. He likes the rock chalk? I like it, too. Voting for him. He’s white like me? I’ll vote.”

It’s typical and people will slam on Yi Jianlian, too. China is voting like this, “Oh he’s from China. I’ll vote. He’s Chinese? I’ll vote.” He’s not alone. China is voting for T-Mac as well because he associates himself with Yao, “Tracy McGrady can still play? I’ll vote for him. He helps Yao? Let’s vote.”

It’s the same mentality for both Americans and International fans. Most are guilty of this.

Except for me because I’m the super alpha male, remember?

This probably does not mean anything in the end because they’re getting votes; that’s what it is. The numerous arguments I’ve heard over the years for players getting snubbed or barely any recognition are as follows:

  • The player is just a good stat stuffer on a bad team.
  • No player should be an All Star unless his team above .500.
  • He’s in a small market.

Kevin Durant: Step off with the stat stuffer argument. Isn’t that what he’s supposed to do? It’s about numbers, too. Becoming an All Star is an individual recognition thing. This is not a team-based performance award. Yeah, wipe that shit-eating grin off your face with that argument because you look dumb. I’ve heard many so-called sports “experts” use this on numerous NBA shows. The guys using this look more stupid than not. This is not going to stick. It’s not player’s fault that the team around him sucks. That’s why Kevin Durant should make the All Star reserves this year. Thing is does the Oklahoma Thunder deserve an All Star for how they did Seattle dirty? And for that, Nick Collison should make the All Star game before KD to further make him mad. Not only can this be an embarrassing blemish for the Thunder, but this might make KD to demand a trade. Come to the Bulls, Kevin.

Danny Granger: The Indiana Pacers are not above 500. So? He just won the damn game for Indiana against Phoenix putting up monster numbers. Through 32 games thus far he’s averaging nearly 26 points, 5 boards, 3.5 assists, 1 steal, and 1.4 blocks. I fully expect him to be an All Star this season. His team’s performance should not matter. Why should it matter? This is an absurd qualification if it ever came to fruition. If Skip Bayless, Jay Mariotti, or any ESPN analyst uses this, they should be tortured by watching the cliché movie “College” or “Semi-Pro.” That’s more than enough torture.

Deron Williams: He plays in Utah. That’s all I need to say. He’s also the biggest snub of them all. Last season, he was robbed of a spot by Brandon Roy. This year, he might not make it again. He is the clear cut 2nd best point guard in the NBA who hasn’t been an All Star yet. This could be a Shakespearean tragedy. Playing in Utah hurt his rep. I completely blame this on the entire state of Utah for not stuffing the ballot for him. If Luke Ridnour can get that many votes out of Milwaukee, why can’t D-Wills get all the votes from Utah? I don’t see him mentioned in many NBA circles. I also blame ESPN for not featuring Deron a lot. The ankle injury did hurt somewhat, but he’s back to his full form. Last time I checked, the Jazz is playing above .500 ball. It’s too bad. They mention Lebron, Kevin Garnett, and Kobe all the fuckin’ time, but never these guys. Face it; ESPN has a lot of power to push the popularity of certain players who are “media sexy.” Where’s the support for this guy, Utah? You don’t have confidence in him?

Perhaps all three should play with Yao Ming or Yi Jianlian.
