Paul Pierce’s Boston Celtics are freefalling. Who is to blame?
|
The Boston Celtics lost to Kobe Bryant’s Lakers by one point at TD Garden. Losing by one stinking measly point hurts. Having Kobe hit the game winner hurts even more. Then again the Celtics have been losing a lot lately after starting off hot at the beginning of the season. The month of January was a losing month as they scratched away with 6 wins and 8 losses. Lately they have been consistent at losing 3 games in a row. This is a disheartening situation for any diehard Celts fan. It’s also scary for the coaching staff. Let’s hope they do not lurk in any of the message boards floating freely in the internet. People are already starting official “Fire Doc Rivers” threads. What makes them official anyway? Were they approved by the NBA or something?
Why fire Doc Rivers? I don’t get it. Again, fans are too reactionary. It’s like reactionary fans have this big badge of idiocy. People do not think clearly when emotions get involved. I will look around and gather some sample responses from pissed fans who usually mess around with their fantasy basketball leagues during work hours. Scientific evidence shows that heated fans would love to do something about a losing situation, but they really can’t do anything. The next outlet is to voice their opinions. To the internet, Batman!
Found some samples.
“I'll say that Doc's coaching has lost quite a few of the, what are the Celtics at, 16 losses now? Ugh. But I don't know if firing him makes too much of a difference. Promote Thib? All for that if any coaching change is going to be made.”
“Seriously, I just can't stand it anymore. I defended the guy as fellow C's fans dogged him but now I see it. This guy is seriously just the benefactor of 3 HOF players. His rotations are atrocious.”
“The guy is just not a good coach, he's clueless. Done defending him. Ainge, find us a real coach.”
“It could be worse... you could have Don Nelson.”
“Try having Vinny Del Negro.”
“It could be worse... you could have Kurt Rambis.”
“It could be worse…you could have Paul Shirley as your spokesman.”
Here’s one logical one.
“Don't fire Doc. Fire the old %%$ players start over again.”
The lost to Kobe’s Lakers at home was very devastating. Last time I checked, which is February 1, 2010 at 5:24 AM, the team has a record of 29-16. They’re currently holding the 4th seed. A team of their caliber should be a top 2 team, right? How the mighty have fallen. Why have the Celts been freefalling? This is a combination of things. First off, Kevin Garnett has been injured and looks to be playing in a cast. Rondo transforms into Dwight Howard at the free throw line. Rasheed Wallace is performing far below expectations. Ray Allen has been off the mark, but that’s expected since his days now are relegated to being a specialist. Word is the Celts are trying to deal him.
Are fans overreacting as usual or Doc Rivers truly to blame?
