08.29.2006 - Updated on 08.29.2006

SAITAMA (FIBA World Championship) - Spain destroyed Lithuania to reach the semi-finals of the FIBA World Championship for the first time in 24 years.

The Spaniards, one of the most talented sides in international basketball, forced the Baltic giants into 15 first-half turnovers and Juan Carlos Carlos Navarro and Pau Gasol each poured in 15 points before the break as they rolled to an 89-67 victory.

Reigning Olympic champions Argentina stormed into the semi-finals of the 2006 FIBA World Championship with a dominating 83-58 victory over Turkey.

Andres Nocioni paced the way for Sergio Hernandez’s side with 21 points while Luis Scola added 13 and Carlos Delfino contributed 14 points off the bench.

With the victory in their first international meeting with Turkey, the Argentineans set up a semi-final date with Spain, who beat Lithuania 89-67 earlier in the day. It also leaves the South Americans one win from returning to the final.
