Are the Greg Oden Nude Photos Real?

So what does a seven-footer do when he's out for the season - again - with an injury that could hamper his long-term potential?  If you're Greg Oden, apparently you take and distribute MySpace-style photos of yourself in the mirror.  Nude.

Now, I'm not going to make any claims as to the veracity of the photos, but I will say this: They do look suspiciously like Oden.  I only wish I didn't know that.  It transpires that certain no-longer-friends of mine think it's funny to send blind links purporting to be insider trade information when they are, in fact, photos of the insides of someone's drawers.  In my panic, I not only closed the browser window but instinctively hit the "Sleep" button, as if my laptop screen would somehow benefit from a nap after the ordeal it had gone through.

There's not a whole lot of information surrounding the images themselves or their origin other than the detail that they were received and disseminated by one of old man Oden's "jump-offs".  For the less hip among us, the term refers to a casual sexual acquaintance, in this case one Greg felt would like to know what a reflection of his genitals looked like in an unsanitary environment.

Assuming the photos (and you can Google for them if you're so inclined) are, in fact, of Greg Oden, you can only wonder what the dude was thinking.  When you're so famous that your penis is famous, it's maybe not the best idea to transmit images of yourself, you know, hanging out that the recipient can spread as easily as they can forward an email.  Athletes need to learn that in the internet era very little is private, and sending compromising shots of yourself to people you may or may not know that well (and presumably this lady didn't know Oden well enough to  have seen anything south of the border) is consequently not advisable.

Update: Greg Oden has confirmed that the photos are genuine, that they were taken over a year and a half ago and that he feels "betrayed" that they saw the light of day.  Thanks to Ben Golliver (@blazersedge) for the heads-up and for covering the situation so closely.  Select quotes from Greg Oden pertaining to the situation:

"I've had better days... It was a thing of the past and I'm definitely sorry."

"I had a relationship with a lady and some things came up... I don't want to go into details..."

"You think you trust somebody but anything can happen"

"As soon as I seen it, my heart just dropped."
