Damon Jones / TNT Drama

Everything started with Miami Heat Damon Jones wearing sunglasses indoors at the post game press conference of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. Jones later declared in the interview "I feel like a movie star". "The basket looked really, really big," Jones said. "Like South Beach. It's a big beach over there, really big. Beautiful, too."

Jones was aksed the next day by the NBA not to wear glasses anymore at post game press conferences. The NBA later explained that this has nothing to do with Jones but that a "memo" was sent to teams before the season regarding postgame-interview attire. "It includes no wearing of headgear, and sunglasses and hats are included in that," a league spokesperson said.

The New York Post reported that "Stan [Van Gundy] and Pat Riley didn't ask me [to take them off]," Jones said before the Heat flew to New Jersey for tonight's Game 3. "The NBA did. I don't know why. I don't get into that but know Charles Barkley gave me some bleep about it. The only reason he did that is because he doesn't look as good as I do. He can't find sunglasses to fit his big, fat, bald head. He's on the stage to where he gets on a lot of people about a lot of things. I'm just shooting back." -

Trouble expanded started later for Damon Jones when TNT's Barkley and Smith were having fun comparing him to Alfred the Butler on the Batman show, with Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade playing the more glamorous roles of Batman and Robin.

Jones seemed to enjoy one day of the Alfred jokes but, after watching TNT dress him up with a tuxedo and a toilet brush, he felt offended.

Miami Heat All Star Dwyane Wade will be featured in People Magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People when the magazine hits newsstands on Friday.

Wade, the only NBA player featured in this issue will be joining other athletesm such as soccer star David Beckham, tennis phenom Maria Sharapova and former NFL player Tim Green. Alonzo Mourning, another Heat player was already featured in the issue in the mid-1990s.

Dwayne Wade insured to the Miami Herald that ''All of them will get a copy, no question,'' Wade said. ''I might hand-deliver it to their rooms.''

Wade's teammate Damon Jones, known for his lack of humility - he refers to himself as ''every woman's dream,'' - will certainly have a hard time accepting Dwyane Wade's achievement as one of People Magazine "50 Most Beautiful People".

Trials set for five Indiana players

Rochester Hills, MI (Sports Network) - The five members of the Indiana Pacers charged in connection with a November brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills will have their trials heard beginning August 1.

Ron Artest, Anthony Johnson, David Harrison, Jermaine O'Neal and Stephen Jackson are charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and were granted separate jury trials.

Artest will start the proceedings on August 1, and will be followed by Johnson, Harrison, O'Neal and Jackson. Judge Lisa Asadoorian announced the schedules Friday during pre-trial hearings with the players and their attorneys at U.S. District Court in Oakland County.

Four Detroit Pistons fans charged in the melee also appeared in court Friday. Bill Paulson and John Ackerman will go to trial on July 11. John Green, who helped spark the brawl by tossing a beverage at Artest, will have his case heard on July 15 along with David Wallace, brother of Pistons center Ben Wallace.

A fan charged with throwing a chair pleaded no contest last month and is expected to be sentenced in May.

The infamous brawl involving spectators and players broke out near the end of the November 19 game between the Pacers and Pistons after an on-court dispute over a foul.

The contest was stopped with 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Indiana was credited with a 97-82 victory. With the Pacers ahead by 15 points, things unraveled when Ben Wallace was fouled by Artest and the Pistons' center took exception to what he deemed a hard foul and gave Artest a two- handed push to the face.

After that, the pushing and shoving continued by the scorers' table as players came off both benches. The Detroit fans then lost control and began throwing cups filled with liquid and ice at Artest, who was surprisingly staying out of harm's way on top of the scorers' table. Artest was hit in the head by a flying cup and immediately raced into the stands and started punching whom he thought was the culprit.

Jackson followed into the crowd, along with several other players, and started swinging away at the unruly fans.

Two days after the disgraceful incident, NBA commissioner David Stern issued harsh penalties, including the suspension of Artest for the remainder of the season. In addition, the NBA issued a revised set of arena guidelines to all teams. The guidelines consisted of policies dealing with security, alcohol sales and fan behavior.

Kobe Bryant and victim agree to settle civil suit

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and the woman who accused him of sexual assault have reportedly agreed in principle to settle the civil lawsuit she filed in a Denver Fe

ABC News is reporting that Kobe Bryant and his victim agreed to a settlement for emotional and other injuries the woman suffered in regard to the alleged sexual assault. Sources say both parties are working out details of the settlement and that it could be signed by the end of the week.

Bryant had been scheduled to give a deposition this past Friday, but it was cancelled, raising speculation that the civil lawsuit against him might be nearing a settlement.

The 26-year-old Bryant was accused of sexually assaulting a then 19-year- old woman at a Colorado resort in June of 2003. Bryant, who was in Colorado for surgery on his right knee at the time of the alleged incident, claimed the two had consensual sex.

Eagle County prosecutors eventually dismissed the sexual assault charges last September, just before the trial was set to begin.

Prosecutors decided to drop the criminal case after the alleged victim was not willing to testify when the trial began. She then filed a civil suit on August 10. In a civil suit, the alleged victim doesn't have to testify.

The All-Star guard issued an apology after the criminal charges were dropped. He maintained that the encounter was consensual, but recognized that the woman did not view the incident the same way.

Chauncey Billeps gets a new Bentley

Question: Why did you pick a Bentley, instead of a Rolls-Royce or something else?

Answer: I always wanted a Bentley.

Q: Always?

A: Since I made it, that is.

Q: Did you have any special modifications, anything added?

A: No. I just wanted to get it. I didn't want to wait anymore.

Q: How long have you been waiting for this car?

A: About a year and a half.

Q: Did you pick the color? Silver with black interior?

A: Yeah. All my cars are silver, because it looks good with chrome wheels. It's a perfect match.

Q: What about during the winter?

A: I've got a Range Rover for that. This'll just be for the summertime and some nice days.

Q: What was your first car?

A: An Olds 98. I don't even remember what year it was. It was about as long as this building. I'd only drive about three days a week, because it cost so much to fill up.

Q: What do you like about the Continental GT?

A: It's classy, but it's sporty. And it's real comfortable, plenty of room.

Q: What do you want your license plate to say?

A: BIG SHOT. They call me Mr. Big Shot, but I don't know if I can get that many letters.
