EBC Day Twenty-One: J Records vs. H3

Danny Artest is the story in this game’s opening minutes, barging his way into the paint for twelve of his team’s first fifteen points. J Records are hardly disheartened, though, staying in the contest on the strength of the sustained scoring of lightning-quick point guard “Cross Country”, who repeatedly loses his defender for jumpers and teardrop layups. When they draw within a point, however, H3 turns it up a notch, with a pair of jumpers by Curtis Stinson around two fastbreak layups by Antifreeze giving them a 29-20 lead midway through the period. A run by J Records that immediately follows looks as if it’ll put them ahead before the halftime buzzer sounds, but A-Butta takes it on himself to ensure that it doesn’t happen, putting in back-to-back layups to leave H3 in the lead at 41-34.
A-Butta and Cross Country continue to dominate the game after the intermission, the difference being that the former also receives contributions from his teammates, who help him make it a 54-42 game with twelve and change remaining. The resurgence of Danny Artest gives H3 hope of running away with the game at this early stage in the second, but, unfortunately for them, it coincides with a team-wide shooting slump.

Meanwhile, Alimoe and his squad hustle their way back into contention, mounting a comeback that has them only four points from tying it up with three minutes to go. Although A-Butta briefly stretches it to six with a mean crossover and reverse layup, Alimoe responds with a floater and a put-back that make it 78-76 at the 1:25 mark.

Thereafter, the teams trade two tricky layups apiece before H3’s Curt is sent to the line for a one-and-one. Although he misses his first, J Records do likewise in the same position just moments later, forcing them to foul again in the dying seconds. This time, however, it’s A-Butta they send to the line, who calmly sinks a pair to put the game out of reach at 84-80.
