Appeasing The King: No Jason Kidd, Cleveland Cavaliers Must Keep LeBron James Happy

My AM Take: For a second, forget Devean George and his no-trade clause. I understand this is easier said than done-blocking the Jason Kidd deal is the forward’s biggest move since, well, ever.

There is another angle to this story worth reporting …

The unknown status of the Jason Kidd-Devin Harris trade is little consolation to Cleveland superstar LeBron James. The Cavaliers lack the assets to acquire the All-Star –the Nets are seeking draft picks, expiring contracts, and blue-chip prospects in exchange for their star table-setter.

 James understands a Kidd-to-Cleveland deal is highly unlikely. But does he accept it?

’’I think the (front office) probably has been trying to do some things; I don’t know. We all know we need to get better; that is simple,’’ James said. ’’To me, I want to win now I don’t want to sit around and wait. Sometimes you have to.’’ (Akron Beacon Journal)

James’ comments show his frustration. Remember, The King recently issued a royal decree, demanding management do everything possible to bring Kidd to his Ohio kingdom.

It won’t happen. So what’s Cleveland GM Danny Ferry’s next move? Well, he should do two things.

First, Ferry must seek a meeting with James-a brief sit-down, nothing formal. In this meeting, he must explain to his star why acquiring Kidd was impossible and reassure James that the organization is committed to winning.

Second, Ferry must get his superstar help. That’s what James wants. Memphis’ Mike Miller is an option. Point guards Andre Miller and Mike Bibby are also available.

Cleveland must do something. James’ early opt-out clause is looming. And handling these situations properly will help the Cavaliers re-sign their franchise player.

Like I said, forget Devean George. There is another angle worth reporting.
