Apple of New York’s eye: David Lee would benefit if Zach Randolph gets traded

September 08 08

NBA news mixed with analysis …

Their news:A source said the Knicks would use Milicic prominently in a three-man rotation that would have Curry and David Lee  David Lee starting up front and Milicic as first big man off the bench. The trade would reduce the importance of top pick Danilo Gallinari making an immediate impact. The proposal was reported Friday on a newspaper blog in Memphis. Reportedly, one holdup is Memphis wanting the Knicks to pay Randolph’s deferred money in the deal.” (New York Post, linked on CNNSI Fan Nation)

Our Very Quick Analysis: This proposed trade would save New York 10 million dollars and land them Darko Milicic, the second overall pick in the 2003 draft.

Believe it or not, there is another juicy side-story to this rumour. As reported by the New York Post, if Randolph gets dealt then David Lee would finally become the starter. The blue-collar post never got a fair shake with Thomas, receiving inconsistent minutes despite posting solid numbers.

Politics were a factor. After all, the suits at MSG had to justify acquiring Randolph last summer, so Lee, a good soldier who never complained publicly, sat for long stretches of games. It didn’t matter that Randolph and Curry couldn’t work together, while Lee played well with either post.

The Thomas regime is over. No more favourites. Lee will get his chance and capitalize.

Will Lee develop with more playing time? Get at us with thoughts in the comment box below and come back to HoopsVibe The Blog for another round of NBA News & Analysis. I agree YISI, it does seem to be the same teams and players talked about over and over again. I guess this outlets knowledge is only on 10 teams. It wouldn’t kill you to talk about the Pacers every once in awhile good or bad .

too bad d’antoni doesnt like Lee’s game very much...hopefully he realizes that his superior rebounding combined with Curry’s non-existant rebounding but potent offense/huge body can work in a grind it out system .

The great thing about archives is you can go back and check facts. I’ll be easy and won’t call you out on how many times you wrote about the Knicks compared to any other team. It just gets old when you talk about the same 10 teams when there are 30, I’m out like disco .

besides bein’ gully on the defensive end, lee was also the mcdonald’s all-american dunk champ, gettin’ the best of james "flight" white so here’s hopin’ that d’antoni can coax a lil more fast-breakin’ antics from the kid... .

Good morning to you too YISI ... I’ve written 2 articles on this trade because it is the biggest NBA story and on-going/developing. I also wrote on Ewing cause he just got inducted into the HOF. Again, these are the big NBA headlines, other than that I haven’t covered too much NYC stuff. So chill. Thanks for commenting, anyway ... I’ll be checking in later today if you feel like commenting or chatting on this. Out ... .

Do you get a frickin royalty check everytime you write about the knicks, get off their di*ks, just because they’re largest market, doesn’t mean they need coverage every couple days, they suck and will continue to suck for another 4 years .
