Best and Worst of Allen Iverson’s Time With Philadelphia 76ers

March 19 08

Last night’s pick-up run turned into twelve men debating Allen Iverson’s upcoming return to Philadelphia. Discussing The Answer’s time as a 76er perfectly divided the guys. Six remembered his swooping drives, MVP season, and playoff heroics; the other six remembered his off-court issues.

The informal sample shows how Iverson polarizes. He’s always had this splitting effect. Iverson was both applauded and knocked for his achievements in high school and Georgetown University.

Same deal in Philly. Old school fans questioned his shot attempts, tattoos, and corn-rows. The new school, however, embraced Iverson the person and athlete, marveling at his moxie and skill-set.

Iverson is far from perfect, but I respect his heart and toughness. He deserves a thunderous ovation tonight when he returns to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since getting traded in late 2006. Still, there are always two opinions on this issue …
