Breaking Down Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers & Cleveland Cavs Swapping Andre Miller For Anderson Varejao?

November 25 07

The 76ers are a mess. With the losses piling-up, star-in-waiting Andre Iguodala has been complaining to reporters. Coach Maurice Cheeks defines lame-duck sideline boss, meekly serving the final year of his contract/sentence. And Philadelphia ’s die-hard basketball fans have thrown their support behind the city’s other teams.

Apathy has set in. Trade rumors have started. Cleveland scribes are reporting that point guard Andre Miller is very available.

Might a sign-and-trade with Anderson Varejao make sense? Miller has one year on his contract after this season. He’s making $9.4 million this year and $10 next year. A Sixers’ official said there was no truth to a rumor of trade talks with the Miami Heat concerning Miller. (The Daily Journal)

Both teams would benefit from this trade. Philadelphia is rebuilding, which means getting worse before getting better.

Translation: trade all established pros (Miller), play the youngsters (Lou Williams), lose sixty games, and pray for a lucky bounce with those little white balls at the lottery ceremony.

Varejao’s pesky style would work in the City of Brotherly Love . He would certainly help Iguodala and Kyle Korver.

Of course, the Sixers would have to sign the Brazilian to a new contract.

The Cavs would get a solid table-setter in Miller. The veteran’s passing, size, and decision-making could provide the Eastern champs with a much-needed spark.

However, Miller’s outside range is a worry. Opposing defenses could leave him to double-team LeBron James. So Cleveland might pass on Miller and chase shooter Mike Bibby when he returns to Sacramento ’s line-up.

Miami is another option. Heat coach Pat Riley has been unhappy with his point guards and likes Miller’s steady play.

The 76ers will make changes. Miller will only be the first to go. Others will follow.

first of all Anderson wants like 60 mill for coming off the Bench. He is an energy player at best and huseles. Gooden can keep up and Miller would be awesome back in a cavs uni playing with LBJ. CAVS DO IT! DO IT NOW BEFORE WE LOSE BY ONE GAME AND NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS! By the way why did Gooden shave off the foomanchoo? .

Not sure where Miller will end up ... Remember the 76ers tried to deal him when they acquired him, so it seems like they have gone back from their original thinking! .
