Charles Barkley Picks Kobe Bryant MVP ... Can You Feel The Love?

March 24 08

The AM Take: Yesterday, HoopsVibe picked up a report in the L.A. Times where TNT commentator Charles Barkley selected Kobe Bryant as MVP.

"Chris Paul has been a one-man wrecking crew. But Kobe Bryant is the best player we’ve got in the NBA. You’ve got an injured Bynum, working Gasol in and now Gasol is out, and to still have the best record in the [West], that’s why I would give the MVP to Kobe Bryant.

Years ago, Bryant was public enemy number one for the Emmy winning Inside The NBA. In particular, the round mound of rebound sharply criticized Mamba for his game seven against Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs.

"I think he was being very selfish," Barkley had said after the game. "I think he stopped shooting so he could say, ’Those guys didn’t help me." (May 2006)

After Barkley’s comments, the two feuded via text message, which became public knowledge and forced the NBA and TNT into setting-up this awkward truce. Remember, this panel hit …

Times have changed. Bryant’s new less-is-more, facilitator approach has killed the selfish tag. And Barkley, give him credit, recognized #24’s growth and praised him. Hopefully, we never see another uncomfortable exchange like in May of 2006.

Do you agree with Barkley? Is Bryant your MVP Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts. Click here to read Oly’s NBA blog and subscribe to his AM Take.

there is a saying that goes the truth can always be an offence to human but can never be a sin to God because is the fact even those competing with kobe bryant know that kobe is way too special for them and must be giving the mvp anytime he appears to be in the game so please kobe haters give it to him because he who the cap fits you just let him wear it .

I personally am getting sick of hearing all the excuses and reasons not to give Kobe Bryant the MVP award this year. Last season Kobe was the best player in the league by a country mile, this season LeBron James has closed the gap. Kobe averaged 31.6 points, 5.4 assists & 5.7 rebounds while playing 40 minutes a game last season. This season he has only been playing 38 minutes a game and as a result his points per game has dropped by two but his assists per game have stayed the same and rebounds up to 6.2. He has become more of a team player and has been a big part in the Lakers success this season. Last season the excuse was, the Lakers didn’t win enough games (42-40) therefore he did not deserve this award and it went to Dirk who’s team had the best record. But Kobe was still known as the best player in the league. So you would think now that the Lakers have one of the best records in the league, he should get the award right? Wrong. This year people are using a different excuse as to why Kobe shouldn’t get the award but LB should. LeBron James means more to his team than Kobe so he should get the award. If this was really the case Kobe should have won the award last season because no one was more valuable to their team that Kobe was. It is a known fact the alot of people dislike Kobe for his attitude off the court and for other off court incidents, people don’t like him because they say hes a ball hog. But all this aside the MVP award goes to the ’most valuable player’ which this season is obviously Kobe Bryant. Hes getting his team mates involed, he steps up when he has to down the stretch and with him doing all this, the Lakers are leading the Western Conference. People need to stop making excuses as to why he doesn’t deserve this award and just give it to him. The award is a long time overdue for Kobe and I just hope this season he finally gets what he deserves .

Chuck is right. Kob did quit in game 7 vs the suns & got called on it. Kobe has learned that is takes 5 to win in the playoffs & has become the best player because of it. Kobe is the MVP now that the Lakes are winning. .
