Classic Coach-Reporter Blow-Ups: Mike Gundy Versus George Karl, Avery Johnson, John Calipari, & Jim Everett-Jim Rome

September 26 07
Media and coaches often have a tense relationship. Our job is to find out the dirt on their team. Their job, other than winning the championship, is to stop us from finding that dirt. Quite often, the adversarial nature of our relationship leads to conflict and problems. Check out the example below.

The All-Time Classic Coach-Reporter Blow-up

I know. This example is from college football. And this is a basketball website. But this blow-up between Mike Gundy, the coach of Oklahoma State University, and Jenni Carlson, a reporter with a local newspaper, sets the industry standard for a meltdown. With this in mind, let’s watch some exchanges between NBA coaches and reporters and see how they stack-up to Gundy’s tirade.

Sports are sports Jenni Carlson had no right to make up a complete load of garbage using non-team sources to fill her column with trash. If she wants to write crap like that she can go work for a tabloid that is not the sort of behavior that a professional journalist should have and ive seen no apoligy from her for making an unprovoked attack on a player. And why would he want to talk to her about her story if you watch his response to her story he lists several things that were not true. .

Rome is a Jerk, He deseved to get knocked on his azz. You media people suck, you think you know it all, you get in people business, and you start stuff. The only reason teams are forced to talk to you, is becuase you guys pump alot of money into the sport to be involved. If the league and team started there own network and got away from mainstream it would be alot better then coaches and players would rant and go off on you idiots. I only like a few sports media people, the rest can suck a fat one. I do love you guys at HoopsVibe though, you rock! .
