Fan Inspired Wednesday GM: Charlie Bell Or Jason Williams, Chris Anderson Or Amare Stoudemire As NBA’s Best Dunking Big Man, Greg Oden Or Kevin Durant?

September 19 07

HoopsVibe The Blog works because our readers drop epic rants in the comment box located below the posts. It never matters whether you agree or disagree with my posts-just that you have an opinion and are prepared to share.

We decided to show our readers some love and publish a fan inspired Wednesday GM. In case you forgot, Wednesday GM is the feature where you assume front office duties and make the call on personnel decisions. Here’s the twist: as GM, you will be settling reader disputes from the comment box. That’s right. You will be settling the debates you started and participated in.

Picking Between Miami Guards
Decision 1: Charlie Bell or Jason Williams.

From Blog Post: Milwaukee Bucks or Miami Heat? Where Should Charlie Bell Play?

The Details: The Miami Heat have tendered Bell a five year, 18 million dollar offer sheet. If the combo guard gets to stay in South Beach, then Williams looks like the odd man out. Bell is consistent and durable, while Williams, fair or not, is still seen as a wild card point guard.

HoopsVibe Readers

 No PAT on the Back:

People bash JWIll like he sucks. Last timeI checked he was the lead PG during the year they won the finals and he played well. We always talk about a person proving their worth once they get a ring, and he has done that. He gets out of control sometimes but when he is calm he does well. Bell is a waste of money. You can do better than that PAT (Riley) . .
 b4hoops.blogspot.com:
The 5 year contract is ridiculous and moving J Will, unless he is seriously injured, is equally as dumb. Bell is a solid player, but his skills aren’t on the same level as J Will. Bell is a better defender I guess, but he is in no way a starting point guard in the NBA. J Will, though not a great player, is definitely a serviceable starting NBA PG. Not sure what Pat Riley is thinking, but I would rather go in with J Will at point and Smush as a backup than with either Smush or Bell starting — neither are very good at all. .
The Call: Readers prefer J-Will over Bell. I like both. And there should be room for both. Williams is a decent starting table-setter, while Bell is a great third guard.

           Best Dunker: Birdman Or STAT

Decision 2: Who is the NBA’s best dunker at the four and five-spot: Chris Anderson or Amare Stoudemire?

From Blogpost: Why Chris Anderson Should Get Reinstated?

The Details: Birdman looks like he’s on the verge of returning to the NBA.  Of course, Stoudemire is a better player. But both are fierce dunkers. Check it out:

HoopsVibe Readers:

 Sean John 3000:

Anderson is decent, but man he’s the League’s best dunking Big Man. Better than them all. I can’t wait for his return.

 Snoopalicious:

Sean John 3000 is wrong. Dead Wrong. Your probably worship Diddy. Stoudemire is the man when it comes to jamming….

The Call: Too close to call. So get at us with your thoughts.

Hindsight Is Gold

Decision 3: Greg Oden Or Kevin Durant.

From Blogpost: Greg Oden Safe Pick For New GM Kevin Pritchard & Portland Trail Blazers.

The Details:  I know. Last year, you got hit over the head with never-ending Oden or Durant polls and voter questions. Well, one more won’t kill you. But factor in Oden’s microfracture surgery and make your decision as of today.

HoopsVibe Readers:

 Altomanx:

Even if Oden was healthy it was the wrong pick. Durant is a STUD! Oden.. think Greg Ostertag. OK but not a tatlent like Durant. I don’t understand some of the GM’s. Carlos Booser was GREAT in college every year every game, yet he went second round. Most of the GM’s are blind!
 b4hoops.blogspot.com:
Yes, Durant is Kate Moss-caliber when it comes to his physique, but if that’s the only issue you can find with his game, to me that seems like more of a compliment than anything else. Durant’s game is infallible — there really aren’t any real weaknesses. Durant will bulk up and be a better player than Oden, no question. Pritchard did make a mistake, whether it was his first week or 10th year as the team’s GM. Five year’s from now we’ll know for sure if he was right or not, but to me Pritchard made the wrong choice. He was worried that a few years down the line he didn’t want to be know as the GM that didn’t draft Oden, but unfortunately he’ll be chastized the same way for not drafting a superstar, game-changing talent like Durant. .
 Drew "shake and bake" Miller:
I think Aerosmith wrote a song about Durant. The title "Dude looks like a lady". He has the physique of a pre-teen swedish boy. He needs to hit the weight room A.S.A.P. His nemesis Oden, on the other hand is a beast! Not the most attractive character, but he can get it done defensively.
Mark Court:
I agree with "Shake and Bake", Oden is a beast and will come in immediately and contribute defensively. Durant does need to "muscle up", but he will be good in time. The dude has game. I believe Oden will be the better of the two in five years, I also think Oden will let Durant polish his trophies when it is all said and done. .
The Call: Once again readers were split. An arguement that kept coming up is that we can’t make a decision until Oden returns to full health. Unfortunately, that’s the point. So, personally, I would pass on Oden and select Durant.

JWill(Whit Eboy) or Charlie Bell (Mateen Cleaves Sidekick) HMMMM.... Give me JWill. Stat is better than the Byrdman at EVERYTHING.... EVERYTHING!!!! And Finally the Oden/Durant question.... I like Greg Oden, I really do! But picking him 1st was the wrong pick from the get go! Portland already had Zach Randolph at the 4 spot, troublesome or not, he averaged 25 and 12 in the league! Lamarcus Aldrige at the 5, a budding star in Brandon Roy at the 2 and Jarrett Jack at the 1.... now what’s missing? How about a really talented 3 man or you could continue to wait for Travis Outlaw to develop something other than athleticism or Martell Webster to be consistent, which ever one happens first! I know Portland didn’t want to relive the Bowie/Jordan thing again but it’s not like Durant is going to be a bum! He going to be Rashard Lewis at least! and Portland gets to plug the whole the 3 spot with a 6’11 freak!!!! are you serious?! COME ON PORTLAND!! .

J Will is the better PG.Charlie Bell just may have the more consistent shotAmare is the better dunker hands down. The birdman is good but he can’t do what Amare did to Josh SmithOden & Durant are flops.Greg Oden is at best the next Mutombo,Durant may get 20ppg,BUT he’ll shooting like 38% to do so .

Don’t underate Charlie Bell that much. The dedication and consistency he brings into every game is far more needed by a team rather than "streetball skillz". .

Oden’s a fluke! I can’t imagine that amidst all the hype of his entrance in the NBA, he suddenly gets injured!?!!! .

I liked No PAT on the back comments, about JWill, because it was real and he spoke the truth. We always talk about someone getting a ring and he has done that. No all of a sudden people want to get these average players like Smush and Charlie. If they were so good why didn’t their teams try harder to keep them? .
