Game seven win proved Boston Celtics’ Eddie House is a legit NBA player

May 03 09

For years, Eddie House wasn’t NBA material. From 2000-2005, he filled out rosters and hoped for an opportunity.

Last night’s performance was ironic. House was a perfect five-for-five from the floor, scoring 16 points in 22 minutes. Best of all, he hit a late three-pointer to help seal the win and series for Boston.

The combo guard, who every franchise passed on at the 2000 NBA Draft, may have been the difference in a historic playoff series. Saturday was years in the making.

After starting out with Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers, House was traded to Charlotte in the summer of 2004. With the expansion club his career hit a crossroad. Two weeks before Christmas, Bobcats’ coach and GM Bernie Bickerstaff called House in for a meeting, where he waived the young pro, and, to top it off, told him he wasn’t an NBA player.

Happy Holidays.

There were stops in Milwaukee and Sacramento before finding a home with the run-and-gun Suns. House, playing regular minutes and near his college stomping grounds at Arizona State, had moments in Phoenix, averaging 10 points per game in Mike D’Antoni’s ‘Seven Seconds to Shoot’ system.

Goodwill wasn’t enough. And the desert became another audition. The thrifty Suns passed on re-signing him and it was off to the swamps of Jersey. After an up-and-down year, Boston came calling and House, seven years into his career, got his first true opportunity.

Playing off ‘The Big Three’ of Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce, House got open, spotted up, and knocked down easy jumpers. Even though they won the 2007-08 NBA Title, House never got his due. A deadly shooter, he was seen as the Celtics’ Achilles heel because he couldn’t fill the backup point guard role.

Last night answered all questions and silenced all doubters. House had the courage to take, and make, big shots. He is an NBA player. In fact, he’s a pretty good one.

Will House finally get some respect? Why? Why not? Get at us in the comment box below and come back to HoopsVibe the Blog for more NBA tidbits. Photo courtesy of celticsbigticketchamps.

Dwight Howard is a true BUSTER. He showed me a lot about his character. Dirty players throw that elbow to sort of let the man on D know "don’t come down here or else". That’s BS, if you are really Superman, Then you don’t have to do all that. But he’s one of those wanna be pretty boys that hates to be showed up or challanged. I hope his squad moves on, so King James can posterize him on both ends of the floor. .

Anyone who didn’t think Eddie House had skills, never watched him play at Arizona. Dude had a 60 point game in college. I used to tell my Pops about dude all the time. I would always refer to him as Mike Bibby’s brother-in-law. I would say "he’s good, but he plays in some BS systems. All the teams and coaches that cut him were garbage. The first time he got on a team with a true coach and a team system, he did his thing. He’s also a great guy to have in the locker room and on your bench, he keeps the team pumped. So all the haters keep watching he will continue to get better and he already has a ring. .

eddie house does what the celtics need him to do: come off the bench and knock down shots providing an extra lift of energy. he may not be the best defensive player but hes definitly not the worst. i personally think hes the perfect fit coming off the bench for the celtics. .

if you remember back when house played in college he set school records in points and steals. if he played more than ten minutes a game his numbers would be better. having house on the floor makes it so much easier for people in the post. even if he just stands there someone at least has to play out on him. you can hate house because he isn’t a point guard or a shooting guard, but at the end of the day he scores points and probably shoots better than your favorite player. there is no way he is one of the worst players in the league. not even close .

House is a streaky shooter he just happen to hit some shots when the bulls didn’t really expect it. he is an okay bench player. .

oly, i watch the celts all the time and house is only good when he is hitting his shots...he doesn’t play great defense and he can’t handle pressure with dribbling...and has trouble getting the team into their offense...so if you slide him to the two he’s even more of a liability matching up against much bigger guards...teams forget to account for him so he gets open shots a bunch of times and all he does is shoot...so i think everyone knew already he was an nba player seeing as he is on an nba roster!?!?! so i don’t know what you are trying to say.... .

The guy can shoot and hit 3’s. He can also bring the ball up the floor and pa-------it to someone else who actually knows what to do with it. On the Celtics, that’s all he needs to do. Other than those things, he cannot do much else. .

House is terrible and the only reason you think he is good is bc he plays for the celtics, there are so many other players that teams have to guard on the celitcs and HOUSE guard HOUSE???? LMAO nobody even knows who the bum is there fore he gets a ton of opens 3s and thats the only thing hes ever practiced in his life is to shoot a 3.....anyways how can you be a guard and have absoultely no handles, no court vision, no defense, no ability to drive and be considered good bc you can hit a wide open 3 this guy in my mind is no doubt top 5 worst players in the league that actually gets a few mins of PT......and who cares if hes in the playoffs he does nothing to get his team there he doesn’t even play every game its all his team hes the worst there except that pruit loser .

How many players on the Bobcats roster have a ring right now? LOL. I can tell some of these negative comments towards are House are pre-determined b/c of hate for the Celtics. The guy can shoot. If nothing more, he can shoot. And you really think the Celtics can be twelve deep with straight ammo off the bench? IMO House is a bargain off the bench. The celtics are a defensive team. What does Eddie House bring you? Instant offense. He averaged 9 ppgs in 19 minutes this season for Boston, shooting 44 % from the 3 pt line, one percent less than his overal average. Lemme know when YOUR favorite player does that. Face facts kiddies, Eddie House is one of the most potent, and streaky, bench players in the NBA. No, he’ll prolly never win 6th man, but like I said, him being an offensive spark on a defensive team is a perfect fit. .

how can you be against house? he has a passion for the game and plays hard. who cares if he can’t defend that well, its a team sport. he goal of the game is to score the most points. getting people open shots just makes it easier, you still hve to be good enough to knock them down. so many nba players are awful shooters; look at miami today they shot 39% in the first half. a knock down shooter can make all the difference to a team. one game may not make a player legit, but look at his season this year. he set a celtics record for 3 point % in a season. the guy is no slouch .

eddie has a championship ring ,which is alot more most of his former coaches have.he is the reason the celts overcame a 24 point hole in game 4 of last years finals. .
