High School Days: Dwight Howard versus Amare Stoudemire

April 01 08

The Very Quick AM Take: Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire dominate ESPN highlight reels like a pop star dominates gossip rags. Simply put, these posts are the future, controlling the air, backboards, and opponents with their illegal athleticism.

Howard, a former number one pick, has developed into the NBA’s best five-man. His numbers are ridiculous: 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 blocks per contest. And his pearly whites are now the face of the Magic franchise.

Stoudemire, a mid-first rounder, has overcome knee surgeries and a tough upbringing to redefine the power forward position. His offensive explosions (STAT is averaging 25 points and 9 rebounds on the season) are something to behold.

These two have something else in common: they both skipped high school and went straight to The League. No college run. No Dick Vitale screaming diaper-dandy on ABC. Overnight, they went from boys (with freakish athleticism) to men.

Still, reflecting on their prep days is fun. As always, watch the clips, form an opinion and give us your impressions of Howard and Stoudemire’s high school careers.

first of all amare needs a better vid than that. and yes dwight is bigger stronger plays better defnse and gets boards but is not better amare. he cant even create his own shot. that little jump hook is not very consistent and his points are just from pic and rolls. on the other hand amare can shoot the mid range jump jump shot and can penetrate from the foul line. dwight howard is also showing his inconsitency while amare is playing like an mvp. amare is consistenly puttin up huge numbers while dwight slacks off n both ends at times. theyre both good but stat is better .

i think that they both kinda equal but Dwight Howard got better dunks, hopz and assists than Amare. but 4 Amare they need a better viedeo 4 Amare tho he can run the court fast, shoot, and make good plays.... Amare comes out on top 4 this 1 .

between the both of them i think they both did good but all stat did was dunk , he was just in a dunk comp. but dwight was doin alot more than just dunkin so i think dwight did better and y in the begin’n all they had was amare missin them dunks i dont see y they showed that i would have just went for his best dunks so his vid aint seem weak and dumb but he still did have some raw dunks .

STAT has developed a nice jump shot-but i have to go with howard by far-he is a defender, rebounder, and scorer-and he has a great personality some one you want to be around on and off the court .

dwightt is way better, all amare wants to do is score, dwight does it all especially in blocks and rebounds. He is also more athletic and can jump way higher than most seven footers. .

To Stat, firstly I really hope you aren’t trying to say that amare stoudemire is a better rebounder than dwight howard. You’re saying a player who’s 6ft 10in and only averaging 9 boards is a better rebounder than the player leading the league in rebounds per game? Logic at it’s finest.Secondly, dwight howard does more than just dunk. While its true his offensive repertoir isn’t large, he does have a nice jump hook and can face up from time to time. He also rebounds, like I said, and is one of the better post defenders in the league, unlike amare who thinks that if he commits enough fouls the other team will stop trying to score. .
