Is Chicago’s Derrick Rose the NBA’s new crossover king?

December 14 08

It took twenty games. Some would say less than that.

Whatever the number, one thing is clear: Derrick Rose is Chicago’s best player since you-know-who pushed off on Bryon Russell in game six of the 1998 NBA Finals.

No disrespect to Elton Brand, Tyson Chandler, Luol Deng, or Ben Gordon, but Rose is the club’s first superstar talent since Michael Jordan. The rookie table-setter has an all-world skill-set and a pass-first mentality that makes everyone around him better.

For a moment, forget the important stuff. I love his highlight reel crossover. Rose is already one of the game’s great ankle-breakers, leaving defenders on their ass and crowds gasping in amazement.

In this edition of ‘Listed’ we’re counting down the Memphis alum’s top five crossovers. Keep in mind this isn’t a career montage, but highlights of Rose’s first few games in the pros.

As always, watch the clips, then get at us in the comment box below with your opinion on Rose’s best crossover. By the way, can the first year pro compete with all-time ankle-breakers like Allen Iverson and Tim Hardaway?

Victim #5: Rajon Rondo ...

Victim #4: Brandon Bass ...

Victim #3: The Utah Jazz ...

Victim #2: Randy Foye ...

Victim #1: Andre Miller ...

his crossover is not that special. The point is he is so fast and strong, he can just get to the rim and reverse direction so easily you don’t feel how fast he is by watching the clip. .

D. Rose is the next M.J. I would also like to point out when he played for my college, U of Memphis, his number was 23. I like watching him fly to the rim. .

Derrick Rose is a solid rookie. But none of those crossovers are that great except for the one he put on Andre Miller. I think he caught Miller (not known for defense) but the rest of the crossovers were pretty weak, for one Ba-------is bigger than him, also the one against the wolves included the use of a pick. Overall Im not impressed, but he still is just a rookie and through time he could develop into a dangerous crossover guard. .

the dude’s got game, no doubt. but hes still gotta prove himself, maybe a few more and a couple like AI’s moment with the stepping over lue. if something that big happens, the crossover king crown is his! (oh and please, who in hell is that commentator on the andre mller clip... he sounds like a damn girl! =P) .

I am not impressed with this guy yet. Remember Steve Francis? I think he’ll be another Stevie if he isn’t careful. But then again I missed calling whether Lebron James was going to be good. So what do I know? .
