Jason Kidds Allegedly Skips Game, Time To Leave New Jersey Nets? December 06 07 The New York Post’s Fred Kerber reports on Jason Kidd’s ’absence’ from last night’s Nets-Knicks game:
Jason Kidd was "on strike" last night, several team sources claimed. He essentially called in sick, perhaps seeking to force a trade from the Nets or gain a contract extension.Coach Lawrence Frank said Kidd phoned him complaining of a migraine yesterday at about 2 p.m. Kidd never showed for the Nets’ 100-93 defeat against the Knicks, also short-handed, at the Meadowlands last night. "Everyone is going to have to sit down and figure out where we go from here," one source claimed. My Very Quick Take: Jason Kidd allegedly played hokey last night, calling in sick and taking a break from his job as table-setter for the New Jersey Nets. Without their superstar and leader, the Nets lost to their cross-river rivals the New York Knicks. Of course, the real story was Kidd’s absence. Was he really sick? Or was he taking a "me" day in an effort to force a trade or position himself for a new contract?
Either way, Kidd’s days of grabbing triple-doubles in the swamps of Jersey may be over. Last year, the Nets nearly moved him at the trade deadline and with a disappointing 9-10 record they’ll listen to all offers.
And there will be offers. Cleveland needs a one-guard. Kobe Bryant would love to have his Team USA backcourt mate in Los Angeles. And Dallas is also an option.
All this talk about Kidd’s absence may be much ’ado about nothing. The Nets and their star have been heading in different directions for quite some time.

I never liked J-Kidd. He’s always in the news for something, most of the time it seems to be negative. That’s why his kids head is bigger than a basketball . | Posted by Nick the Knicks Fan on 12.7.2007 | I agree with "Nothing But NETS!" view, it is a very valid point . | Posted by Diva on 12.7.2007 | No, I think you need to check yourself. No one is selfish here accept these NBA players for whining all the da*mn time - all of them. They’re ungrateful! Sure they wanna win, I understand that but everybody can’t win, that’s just not gonna happen and having a championship ring and a trophy may give them a sense of accomplishment but it won’t guarantee them respect. No matter what you think about me having fantasies, fair is fair and it don’t make sense that people who only have to bounce and shot a ball should make so much money while everyday citizens who work hard get barely enough to live on. Yet we’re more thankful than they are. Maybe you’re the one who needs the reality check! idiot! . | Posted by pahak07 on 12.7.2007 | trade lamar odom and kwame brown for jason kidd . | Posted by on 12.7.2007 | kidd is one of my all time favorites. but if he played hokey, that was unprofessional. at least kobe yapped and yapped but when it was time to shut up and play, he strapped his shoes on and performed. I dont condone what jkidd did, but i understand . | Posted by Tony Romosexual on 12.6.2007 | The things he are trying to pull aren’t effect at this point. He is on the decline, and he contract is pretty expensive, and the nets are gonna want a fortune for him. It’s a lost cause . | Posted by Nothin But NETS! on 12.6.2007 | If Kidd really wanted to win he would have took the deal to play with Tim Duncan in San Antonio if you can’t beat them join them. He chose money over winning by staying with the Nets, so he should deal with it. He signed a contract so honor it. He is getting paid top level money that he’s almost not even worth anymore. He is still solid but is also on the decline. I don’t think he’s in the position to do the things he wants anymore . | Posted by on 12.6.2007 | wow, and who are you people to call these people greedy and selfish and immature? sure, they get paid loads of money, but they want to win too. kidd is nearing the end of his career and wants to win one, and unless you havent been watching the games, the nets suck pretty damn bad right now...he needs a change of scenery and that is the truth...kg left..anyone call him a whiner? ray allen left, anyone call him a whiner? just because they don’t make it public doesn’t mean these players didn’t want to get traded, everyone needs to take a seat back and look at it from the players’ point of view as opposed to your own selfish wishes and fantasies of your picture perfect team with your favorite players on it...and as for kobe opening his mouth, maybe he shouldn’t have made it so public and extreme, but up until this year, the lakers haven’t made any moves at all to improve the team as they promised kobe...sure he was the idiot that drove shaq away (allegedly) but obviously he understands now that he needs more than what he has...so maybe all of y’all need to check yourselves before you start judging other people . | Posted by Diva on 12.6.2007 | I just feel that these guys are spoiled, immature, ungrateful brats who complain for no good reason. Most of them ride around in fancy cars and live in luxurious homes, yet they seem so ungrateful. It’s unfortunate because most of the country is less fortunate, yet more thankful than these idiots! I understand wanting to win a title and a ring but most of them should be grateful that they were chosen by God and blessed with the opportunity to be where they are. After all, most of them come from the ghetto and saw days when they probably didn’t even have enough food to eat. Now that they’re obviously doing better, they should just shut up and count their blessings. . | Posted by The Count on 12.6.2007 | screw kobe... he doesn’t deserve anyone good around him. he drove shaq outta town.... why do you think he wants kidd there?!! kobe is a one man show..... i’m just happy he’ll never ride on anyones back to another title!! . | Posted by on 12.6.2007 | How long has kidd been rebelling against the nets.I mean c’mon, if he leaves, the nets are gonna be nothing without him. . | Posted by Walter Setzer on 12.6.2007 | LEBRON NEEDS KIDD SO BAD! GET KIDD IN CLEVELAND AND WE GET OUR RINGS! . | Posted by Diva on 12.6.2007 | He and Kobe need to cut the crap and just play the game! They’re already over-paid, why do they think everything has to be their way or no way? Both of them wanna be traded, where in the hell do they think they’ll go? There are only so many teams in the NBA and most are satisfied with the line up that they have and don’t necessarily need either of them. These pompus atheletes kill me! They don’t have to do anything but bounce and shoot a ball and maybe do some conditional exercises and all they do is complain and pout because things don’t go their way. What about everyday hardworking citizens who work their butts off daily and don’t get home with not even a fraction of what these players see in just a few games. We’re the ones who should be complaining about what’s not fair, not them! . | Posted by on 12.6.2007 | Kidd needs to cut the immature garbage and suck it up.Work out an extension and stop sulking. What a prima donna. I can’t believe he would want to ruin his legacy as a ball player. Now everyone will know him as the guy who always complained. . | Posted by on 12.6.2007 | Kidd’s absnece is crappy, but he can’t leave, that would wreck his Net legacy! . | 1 2 Next >
