Jefferson will have the San Antonio Spurs ‘moving on up’ the Western Conference

June 23 09

Breaking news mixed with analysis ...

Their News: “The Milwaukee Bucks agreed to trade Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, and Fabricio Oberto, a Bucks source told ESPN.com. “ (ESPN.com news services)

Our Very Quick Analysis: Like the classic television series, a Jefferson will surely have the San Antonio Spurs ‘moving on up’ the Western Conference ladder next season.

Following their recent first round playoff loss to the Dallas Mavericks, experts and casual fans pronounced San Antonio’s quasi-dynasty dead. Their run of four NBA Titles in the past decade was over and done with.

It was an easy call. Age and injuries had slowed Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, while Tony Parker wasn’t a first option on offense. The supporting cast lacked the athleticism, confidence, and talent to chip-in when ‘The Big Three’ hit a dry spell.

But if reports are correct, and Richardson Jefferson is indeed Texas bound, then San Antonio is back in a big way. And the already tough Western Conference got tougher.

Simply put, Jefferson is a world-class athlete. He can run, jump, and get from one end of the floor to the other in seconds. On defense, he’ll fit Gregg Popovich’s get-stops mentality; on offense, he can average 15-20 points on nothing more than hustle plays, fast breaks, and free throws.

(For good reason, a Jefferson has San Antonio fans dancing and scheming to ’move on up’. )

This newly minted Big Four can hang with anybody. Duncan, as always, will anchor the middle with steady play, while Ginobili, Jefferson, and Parker have the makings of an elite perimeter trio. Best of all, each player is intelligent and unselfish, so chemistry won’t be an issue.

The new-look Spurs aren’t heading anywhere but up. With Jefferson’s athleticism, we’ll see if they can reclaim their ’piece of the pie’ by contending for an NBA Title.

With Richard Jefferson in the lineup, there is no doubt that the S.A. Spurs will be back to the Wester Conference Finals. The main reason these spurs lost n the first round was because their health issues and lack of athleticism, now that R.J. is in the line up and getting rid of old players they will be a way much better team then last year. Lakers, Nuggets, Rockets and Suns must be worried about this new San Antonio Spurs. Good Luck S.A. .

San Antonio had to make this deal, look at how Ginobili has continued to break down late in the season. Now they have another perimeter guy to rely on. I hope he gets his ring .

I actually reckon they are going to find it tough defending the paint against the Lakers, Nuggets, Rockets, Suns in the West. Jefferson is a good 3 and will make them more potent offensively, but defensively they can’t put it all on Duncan’s shoulders because he’s getting older and having to take on younger guys night in and night out without numerous contributors inside will make it hard on his body, especially also because the number of picks he has to set for Parker on a nightly basis. Seems to me this trade is more of a wait-and-see how the remaining bigs go. .

if all 4 stay healthy for the most the season and are ready during the playoffs they will be tough to beat .
