Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade shouldn’t share MVP honours

April 05 09

NBA news mixed with analysis …

Their News: "If I had to pick, you know what I’d do? For the first time in history, we’d have three MVPs [LeBron, Kobe and D-Wade]." Bill Russell, as quoted in the (Orlando Sentinel)

Our Very Quick Analysis: There is precedence for co-winners.

In 1994-95, Grant Hill and Jason Kidd shared Rookie of the Year honours and superstars have split the MVP trophy at All-Star games. So Russell’s idea isn’t that far-fetched, especially when considering the fine season Bryant, James, and Wade have each had.

After all, Black Mamba’s Lakers are on top of the Western Conference, ‘King James’ and his Cavaliers have the league’s best record, and ‘Flash’ has put the Heat on his shoulder following their disastrous 2007-08.

Regular season MVP is different. It’s the crème de la crème of awards and the currency in which greatness is measured. Also, it provides a record for fans to trace the game’s history. Then there is the fact it’s decided by a detailed voting procedure.

Most importantly, the MVP award generates discussion and headlines. Fans, coaches, and even the players, themselves, all have opinions on who should win the award. These diverse opinions create much debate, which is good for the league.

Russell is a diplomat. But MVP has always been a one-person award decided by voting. And it should stay that way.

Should Bryant, James, and Wade share the MVP award? Let us know in the comment box below and come back to HoopsVibe the Blog for more NBA coverage. Photo courtesy of 3 Musketeer’s Corners.

Okay so im a girl, and i know this is old and james already won MVP... but i would like to say something, James without the Cavs... (basically the Cavs would still play good) Kobe without the Lakers (they still have Lamar Odom) Wade without heat (the heat as a team are brand new, you cant expect a bunch of rookies to carry a team. You cant just look at how the team is doing, you have to look at the Player. The Heat wouldnt be s---without Wade. Im actually suprised that they made it to playoffs with just Wade alone, Wade cant just do all the work. Kobe and Lebron have help from other good players. Wade has no one. If the heat still had Shawn Marion they would be better, because appearantly, all Jermaine O’neil wanna do is sit on his a-------all day nott qiven a shit. But anyways bak to the point... Wade should win hands down! If not Wade the Kobe. because i hate Lebron James wit a passion. he is wayyyyyyyyyyy to damn cocky (not sayinq theres anythinq ronq with beinq cocky, but damn chill niqqah yuh aint tha shit) myspace.com/gangstamamie .

I totally disagree! The MVP is the award or all awards! Should only be distributed to 1 player! I’m a huge laker fan and the "BLACK MAMBA" is the man no doubt! But "BRON BRON" deserves it the most he has turned Clevelands organization completely around!! Cleveland in the finals?! Props 2 BRON BRON! But kobe is the "GREATEST"!! #24 b-yach!!! .

Kobe won MVP last season but lose the champs. Dwade won the MVP of final. Lebron got nothing. Kobe won the MVP of superstar weekends. Dwade won the Most Scoring Player this season. Lebron only got MVP of superstar last season. So to be honest, it’s the time for Lebron, although I’m the fan of Kobe. .

Will, the NBA has been giving the MVP to best player in the top 2 teams in the NBA. In that case, Kobe should of received MVP trophy long time ago. When he scored 35.4 pt, 2 steals, 5 reb, and 4.5 assists, no one even considered him as MVP candidate. If you look at it that way Will, Dirk didn’t deserve the MVP during 06-07 because his stats are 24pg 9 rebounds? During that season, there were handful of players who posted more pts and more rebounds that Dirk. BUT no one got better team record than Dirk. Thats why MVP is given to Dirk. Not simply his stats are the best, but his ability to lead the team to the best spot. Therefore, although D-Wade is doing great, he isn’t leading his team to the best. LeBron however, is leading his team to the best record in the NBA, and is not that far off the stats sheet from D-wade. .

I think dwade should get. He’s leadin kobe and lebron nt only in points per game bt also steals, blocks, and assist. Idk wt else he gotta do. He’s on a weak heat team and gettin them in the playoffs himself. Even if he dnt im still gonna be his number 1 fan and he already proven himself as a nba finals mvp. So its good. Bt stop hating on dwanye wade tho. Please .

kobe should get it nagain. Bynum got hurt again and they are at the top of the west again. Chris Paul and Dwight Howard should be considered. .

j.k. so you think the mvp award should go to the best player who has the better teamates and better coach, putting more weight on the players and coaches, rather than that of the player who is the person actually getting the award?...wade should get it in my opinion because he has carried his team to the playoffs single handedly, no way kobe should even come close to getting it because he has gasol, odom, bynum, and a hall of fame coach, wade with a bunch of young players and a rookie coach has his team in the playoffs...not to mention his bpg in the last 5 minutes of a game when it is is a close game is off the charts...i think its like 4.5 or so..compared to lebron and kobes is .5 and 0 .
