Kobe Bryant Scheduled To Report To L.A. Lakers’ Training Camp

September 25 07

The Orange County Register reports on Kobe Bryant’s status with the Lakers:

"We have no reason to believe that he won’t be there," Lakers spokesman John Black said.

Bryant has steered clear of the Lakers’ workout facility in El Segundo in recent months, spending considerable time out of town first with USA Basketball in Las Vegas and then on a promotional tour of Asia.

He has scheduled a time to show up for his Lakers pre-camp physical examination, however, furthering belief from the organization that Bryant will maintain a professional approach to start the season. The Lakers are set to gather Oct. 1 for a 1 p.m. team flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, where they will train through Oct. 11.

My Quick Take: The Lakers have been hoping that Bryant will report to training camp. Chances are he’ll appear in Hawaii as scheduled, but nothing with Bryant is simple. Like I have said for the last two months, it has been far too quiet in Staples Center and something has to give.

The Lakers, despite Bryant’s pleas for help, have failed to upgrade his supporting cast. They are wasting his talent. And they are wrong to think free agents will automatically flock to Los Angeles because of their storied history and the glamour of Hollywood.

The Lakers, despite Bryant’s pleas for help, have also failed to upgrade the front office. Do I sound like a broken record, here? The purple-and-gold have stuck with GM Mitch Kupchak even though he’s been publicly undermined by Bryant.

Phil Jackson represents the final straw. The Zen-Master, Bryant’s former foe turned ally, is in the final year of his contract. If Jackson walks, then Bryant will have his strongest reason to quit the Lakers. The star can cite his long-time relationship with Jackson. And he can blame the Lakers for once again failing to secure top personnel.

For a so-called Buddhist, Jackson has put himself in a powerful position and has played the politics of the team’s front office perfectly.

Will Bryant report to L.A.’s training camp? How much power does Jackson actually have? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

I am satisfied that Kobe is resolved to completing his carrer with the Lakers. Now you may be wondering where I recieved that revelation from. Actually, I heard this in his statements; "My job is to bring the squad we have to a higher level... I want to bring a championship back to LA" No one can question Kobe’s commitment nor his loyalty when it comes to the game of basketball. His heart and his spirit are centered on winning, and when he is on the court he gives his all. So what I am saying is, a few battles together with this team and the bonding factor will come into play. Thusly, his dedication to the process will re-emerge. So all I have to say is Go Kobe and go Lakers,we are rooting for you! .

Lakers coaching and adiminatrative staff error when they assigned Bynum soley under Kareem tutorlize. Kareem is too much of a finesse player, Bynum needed someone more agressive like a Elvin Haye. Haye was not only finesse with his backboard shots, but he also exhibited power. Another point, What Kobe needs to sense are teammates with big hearts. To many of his teammates are dependance. .

let me tell you people the truth. The nba would not allow the lakers to obtain Garnett. Ther is too manr powerful teams in the west. The nba is trying to balance the power. It will be years before the lakers become a dynasty again.ONLY UNDER ONE CIRCUMSTANCE ,IF THE CELTICS BECOMES A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM,ONLY THEN YOU WILL SEE THE LAKER BECOMING GREAT AGAIN. .

Personally I believe the Lakers have continouslly gone down hill after Jerry West left. I think Bryant should leave, I love the Lakers but I can’t stand to watch a talent like Bryant being wasted here. We need some size and a decent PG, although Derek Fisher is a great leader, his lack of talent and age need to be considered.Sigh this is just depressing Lakers need to something quick. .

and another thing, Kobe is the best player ever so why would any team risk losing him? Man if I had my way gus like Chris Mihim Sausha Vuacic (whatever)Willie "smush" Parker Rasto Nestarabitch would have been in a trade for KG. Like I said, Kobe is the best player since MJ (Magic not that bald guy from Chicago) you have to do whatever it takes to keep him happy. period point blank. Kobe please stay a Laker 4 life .

the league is just hating on the lakers. they know that we’re still the team to beat but for some lame a-------reason they keep on making stupid moves like not gettin KG or letting shaq go. who ever we pick up, we have to keep lamar odom and go to work! If jerry west was still around we would’ve already picked up KG,keep lamar thus own the league until the trio retired. but people get tired of the same ol faces winning!!!!!!!! sounds conspiracyish to me. Holla.... .

Accord to soures J.A Adande has reported that the lakers are close to making a deal for the pacers’ all-star Jermaine oneal. the lakers would be giving up the developing bynum, cook, radmonovic, jordan farmar, and a first rounder. This was disscused with mitch kupchak and he says that deals are very close around the corner. upgrading the roaster would give the lakers a C/PF and they get to keep lamer odom all of this to apease bryant. Mitch kupchak later said to adande " that this time we will use the wand and get this deal done to make the lakers a contending team. i we have passed on deals such as boozer, artest, kidd, and garnett, but we cant let oneal slip. trading bryant is like doing good for other teams and its impossible to get a deal on bryant." This i accurate as Of TUSEDAY SEPTEMBER 25 , 2007. 12:36 PM (PACIFIC TIME) .

Great point Oly about Kobe’s escape route out of LA being significantly less restricted if Phil decides to bolt at the end of this season. But, I like the fact that Phil has taken Kobe’s side and is putting double pressure on Lakers management to make something happen. I’m betting that the Lakers are keeping their fingers crossed that Andrew Bynum gets off to a great start to the season — in fact, it might not be a bad idea for the Lakers to spoon-feed him early in the season to get those per-game averages up. Then, with his value elevated, the Lakers can turn around and make a mid-season trade for the veteran player they really need to complement Kobe. Should be an interesting 1st half of the season in Laker-land. .
