LeBron James Responds to ’Soulja Boy’ DeShawn Stevenson

March 17 08

My Very Quick Take: The wait is over. LeBron James has officially responded to DeShawn Stevenson calling him “overrated” after Cleveland lost to Washington last Thursday.

All weekend, I was dying for James to hit back publicly. My readers were too. Well, today, the King said his piece to Branson Wright, a reporter with the Cleveland Plains Dealer.

"With DeShawn Stevenson, it’s kind of funny. It’s almost like Jay-Z [responding to a negative comment] made by Soulja Boy. It doesn’t make sense."

Let’s hope the Cavaliers and Wizards meet in the playoffs. A rivalry is building between these teams that goes beyond James and Stevenson. Remember, a few months ago, Washington guard Gilbert Arenas used his blog to criticize Cleveland’s front office for yo-yoing Larry Hughes’ minutes.

Finally, I’m not saying anything about James comparing himself to friend Jay-Z, who is also a minority owner with the Nets. It doesn’t add fuel to the James-to-New Jersey/Brooklyn fire that won’t go out.

It’s not like the King ever wore a navy New York hat to a Yankees-Indians playoff game, right?

What do you think of James’ response? Get at us in the comment box below. Click here to subscribe to Oly Sandor’s NBA Blog and get his AM Take each morning. Image appears courtesy of flickr.com at http://www.flickr.com/photos/7774196@N05/1492256340/

As extra evidence that he’s overrated, look at LBJ’s performance in game 1 vs. the Celtics. It’s one of the worst in playoff history! Yeah Paul Pierce and Ray Allen also sucked but keep they’re 2/3 of the "Big Three" and not "King" James. How some of you guys don’t see how overrated LBJ is blows my mind, starstruck I guess.. I’ll admit he’s got skills and will likely become a future great but right now, this year, hell no. He’s just been hyped up so much and put on this pedestal since the day he was drafted. Look.. he’s inconsistent at the free throw, flaky on defense, and can’t handle clutch. Cavs will NOT beat the Celtics. Maybe after he wins a couple rings, then we’ll talk, until then he’s just the next Vince Carter. .

This is a response to Bulls Fan. The reason no one ever called MJ "King MJ" is because there was never a King MJ in history. Haha."King James" is a play on his name, involving King James of the "King James Bible" fame. To the editor, nice point about Lebron wearing the NY hat to the Indians/Yankees game. Surprisingly, I never heard anything about that.. Wow. James is good, but after the Cavs beat the Wizards, they’re gonna get hurt by the big 3 in Boston anyways. The buck stops there, IMHO. .

Yall are all stupid..none of yall are nba analysts so shut the hell up...Lebron is not overated.. All of the analysts say he is not just read there articles. He is known as the 2nd best player in the league behind Kobe. Even Gilbert Arenas said that himself. Stevenson is just talking trash, duh there in intense battle right now. He can say watever the hell he wants. Lebron knows that because he stop replying to all of the bs Stevenson says because the media blows up on everything he said. .

The main thing overrated on this board is championships. If championships made players great, Robert Horry would be a superstar. Teams win championships, not players. What makes LeBron great is that he takes the Cavs as far as he does with pretty much no help. .

Alright let me write a little bit more clear for yous...IM AM NOT A LBJ NOR AM I A KOBE FAN AT ALL...LBJ is nothing but power anyhow that can easily force his way to the hoop...Kobe has more skills but doesnt have the ability to put up the all around stats lbj does...and kobe wouldnt be at the top or near if they hadnt got gasol or the way bynum was producing when he un injured...but yea what kobe has done with that team from last year to this year is impressive...i aint going to bag on anyone if there good except maybe a garnett or somebody as big as loser as him and overrated like him...yea some play to win rings some are just fine with there big contracts and that shows from time to time .

Jesus! Trying to read "Gbow’s" postings is like reading my 2 year olds writings. The one thing I read that he wrote is certainly obvious - - there’s no question you didn’t go to high school!Oh, & by the way - - Lebron is over-hyped & over-rated? You two are numbskulls! I suppose Tiger is just on a lucky streak! Get a friggin clue you two!!! .

I know somehow G Bow you will bag on Kobe. Kobe was overrated when he was 23, and so is Lebron. Now I think Kobe deserves his dues for pushing the Lakers on top of the Western Conference, which we all know, Lebron cant even do that in the East. Regardless of the debate, Lebron is by far more overrated than Kobe. Also, I have never said that I was obsessed with lebron’s skills, I just think he is a great player, but he is very much overhyped by the media. By the way, players play ball games to win one thing, not the MVP nor anything else, that is to win the RING my friend. G Bow, i know you may have a lot of money but would think people who brag about it are unprofessional? I am not calling you that my friend, I am calling Lebron. .

PRofessor, I agree with you. People here are obsessed with Lebron because of his basketball skills, which there is nothing wrong. But they fail to realize the subject of the debate here. Nobody says Lebron is not a better player, even the Kobe, Wade, or Duncan fans will honestly tell you he is good. But the question that lingers is is he an overrated player? The answer is yes. He is 23 and did stats that are impressive, but those stats will be non existent let say if he play for the Pistons or Spurs because people play like a team. Plus at 23, Duncan and Kobe won championships, and their stats were as impressive as Lebron, except they actually played in the western conference where the challenge is by far elevated. The botton line here is Lebron stepped over the line by suggesting his superiority over Stevenson, that to me is very cocky, and at the same time, the media and his obsessed fans worship him for being a shallow person, that to me ladies and gentlem, is OVERRATED. .

I knew all along that a Lebron fan would comment about his money, his skills, as if people who have less money than him are not allowed to say anything negative because he is a "superior" human being than people who makes less money. I don’t have millions or fame like Lebron but does not make me any less human being than him. G Bow, you are an uncivilized and uneducated person who is a big suck up to materialism and your God idol like Lebron. The topic here is whether Lebron is overrated or not. How pathetic and shallow are your comments. I am an educated individual and would never look down at people just because they haev less status or less money. People here voiced their opinion and the majority from page 1 to page 3 agreed he is overrated. Just because we may not have the money, does not mean we dont have rights. At least we are civilized and educated enough to know we do have rights and we tell the truth about your God Lebron. .
