LeBron James Responds to ’Soulja Boy’ DeShawn Stevenson

My Very Quick Take: The wait is over. LeBron James has officially responded to DeShawn Stevenson calling him “overrated” after Cleveland lost to Washington last Thursday.

All weekend, I was dying for James to hit back publicly. My readers were too. Well, today, the King said his piece to Branson Wright, a reporter with the Cleveland Plains Dealer.

"With DeShawn Stevenson, it’s kind of funny. It’s almost like Jay-Z [responding to a negative comment] made by Soulja Boy. It doesn’t make sense."

Let’s hope the Cavaliers and Wizards meet in the playoffs. A rivalry is building between these teams that goes beyond James and Stevenson. Remember, a few months ago, Washington guard Gilbert Arenas used his blog to criticize Cleveland’s front office for yo-yoing Larry Hughes’ minutes.

Finally, I’m not saying anything about James comparing himself to friend Jay-Z, who is also a minority owner with the Nets. It doesn’t add fuel to the James-to-New Jersey/Brooklyn fire that won’t go out.

It’s not like the King ever wore a navy New York hat to a Yankees-Indians playoff game, right?

on 03.20.2008		 PRofessor, I agree with you. People here are obsessed with Lebron because of his basketball skills, which there is nothing wrong. But they fail to realize the subject of the debate here. Nobody says Lebron is not a better player, even the Kobe, Wade, or Duncan fans will honestly tell you he is good. But the question that lingers is is he an overrated player? The answer is yes. He is 23 and did stats that are impressive, but those stats will be non existent let say if he play for the Pistons or Spurs because people play like a team. Plus at 23, Duncan and Kobe won championships, and their stats were as impressive as Lebron, except they actually played in the western conference where the challenge is by far elevated. The botton line here is Lebron stepped over the line by suggesting his superiority over Stevenson, that to me is very cocky, and at the same time, the media and his obsessed fans worship him for being a shallow person, that to me ladies and gentlem, is OVERRATED. .

on 03.20.2008		 I knew all along that a Lebron fan would comment about his money, his skills, as if people who have less money than him are not allowed to say anything negative because he is a "superior" human being than people who makes less money. I don’t have millions or fame like Lebron but does not make me any less human being than him. G Bow, you are an uncivilized and uneducated person who is a big suck up to materialism and your God idol like Lebron. The topic here is whether Lebron is overrated or not. How pathetic and shallow are your comments. I am an educated individual and would never look down at people just because they haev less status or less money. People here voiced their opinion and the majority from page 1 to page 3 agreed he is overrated. Just because we may not have the money, does not mean we dont have rights. At least we are civilized and educated enough to know we do have rights and we tell the truth about your God Lebron. .

on 03.19.2008		 ALRIGHT.. so all the youngest player records whick lebron will end up owning all off kg and kb24, that dont mean nothing, avg 30 8 8 on his what 5 season, only jordan put up numbers like that. and the big o , if it wasnt for kobe and the lakers having a better squad this year, the mvp will go staright up to lb23 mvp. not kobe, but kobe will have it this year. the scoring title that in lebron hands again youngest player to lead the league in scoring. youngest mvp all star youngest 10,000 pts , but who care s about those stats , my point is lebron is doing it all at age 23, no championship yettttttt..just liek shaq,, and lakers you need at least 2 good all stars and all is said and done. duncan hes the man but hes a big, diffrent senario, becouse shaq will destroy all them including lebron, but werer talking about just straight out all around game triple double, i like duncan , i like kobe game , and JORDAN WELL HE CANT BE TOUCHED, but lebron is doing it with stats off the charts.i mean did you guys see him in HS. But anyways, I am a Cleveland Cavalier fan, but I do agree that Lebron is somewhat overrated just for the fact that the media worships him as if he has won us any championships here in Cleveland. I’m sorry Lebron, I love you, but Stevenson may have a point here. .

on 03.18.2008		 $20 million stacks, who gives a damn who’s better. The question is, is Lebron overrated. Stevenson did the right thing by speaking the truth. I can’t stand the way people who think they have status are the only ones who are allowed to voice their opinion. I mean if Duncan, Kobe, Garnett, or Nash said Lebron is overrated, they would not be attack as much as Stevenson. Professional and mature people in this debate should respect Stevenson’s right to say what he feels its true. And, yes he did said the truth. Lebron is a damn overrated player. I will only give him props if he wins the championship at the age of 23 just like Duncan and Kobe did. .

He should have said not only is he overrated, but he si full of himself too. I read what the otehr guy put here about how Lebron treated the employees in the USA team and not even call them their first names. Man, i could have sworn that Lebron may be the most overrated NBA player in history. Suck ups like his fans are so bias, that they continue to attack Stevenson as if Stevenson has no civil rights to speak his mnd. Stevenson, great job! Lebron by evidence is truly overrated. .

on 03.18.2008		 At the age of 23, Duncan have won a championship, second place in MVP voting, Finals MVP, All Star MVP, averaged 24 points, almost 13 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal per game, and shooting 50% from the field. He was also an All NBa first team and all NBA defense first. He was third in Defesive of the Year votes. So Octane please do not say he is better than Tim Ducan at the age of 23. I know Duncan is not as cocky or dunks the basketball and shows off to the media, but it doesn’t mean he is less accomplished than Lebron. All GM knows that Duncan at the age of 23 was better, and if any GM were to be ask who would they chose, the would chose Duncan easily. Props to Stevenson for telling the truth, Lebron is one of the most overrated figures in sports history. .

on 03.18.2008		 Hey Octane, Magic and Duncan won a championship, before and during the age of 23. They were the man on their respective teams. The only problem was they would’nt dunk or have highlights like Lebron, since he is pampered by the media just like Barack Obama. But you are wrong Octane, Lebron is not better than Larry, Magic, or Duncan. You, just like most of his bias fans, are overrating him when he has not won a single championship nor a season MVP or Finals MVP. By the way, Lebron, sucks as a defender, and his jumpshots will make the Cavs lose many games. Moreover, his selfishness and ego will only be a barrier to his success. As of now at 23, Duncan and Magic and even Kobe have been more successful than him because they won a championship before or at the age of 23. .

on 03.18.2008		 Lebron is not second to MJ, Mr Octane. There are many great players above Lebron who have won big games, and that is the most important, such as WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. Larry Bird, Wilt, Kobe, Duncan, Kareem, Magic, and many more are all better than Lebron their first 5 years in the league. For instance, Duncan can easily average 30 and 13 a night if he wants to, but he plays to win and allow his teammates to get the opportunity. He takes less shots but his field goal percentage is always above 50% his whole career, except one year when he suffered from plantar fascitis and miss plenty of games. Lebron wants statistics that is why he is not in the same level as DUncan, who actually finish college, eventhough as a sophomore had already been offered big money by the NBA, and rejected a $55 million 2 year extension that he was suppose to get with the Spurs and instead accepted $40 million. He would have been the highest paid played in the NBA bit instead he sacrificed himself so the Spurs may not pa-------the salary cap and able to sign more free agents. Lebron will not sacrifice his statistics or money, that is why he went straight from high school to the NBA. Man, i have been watching basketball for 27 years now, and I have never seen a more overrated player than him. .

It is wrong the way he tries to humuliate Stevenson by saying he is much more superior and that "it is funny" the way it would be Stevenson who would said it. I mean even if it comes from Kobe, Duncan, or Garnett, superstars in his level, or to the last man on the bench, people have the right to say their opinion and not be attack just because they say something negative to someone who is considered a better player. Octane, I agree with you on only one thing, Tupac is the best rapper ever, not jay Z, but Lebron, I am certain, meant that Jay Z is higher than Souljah Boy that is why he said it to suck up to his friend Jay Z. And to the gu, whoever that is without a screen name, please Lebron is overhyped by the media. Their have ben many players before that are more accomplished than him, but never got the attention. LEBRON IS OVERRATED PERIOD! .

on 03.18.2008		 OCTANE, why should he be arrogant? He can be confident but arrogant is a different level. You mean it’s mature for him to belittle people. During the USA Basketball camp, according to the San Antonio Express News, Bowen told Lebron to stop ordering people around and atleast call and remember their first names. This was the first time I saw how James was so arrogant. I mean I cant believe you enjoy this OCTANE, you want someone to be arrogant and people belittiling others just because they have superior status. Any educated and well bred people would disagree with that. .
