Reggie Miller Considers Comeback With Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce & Boston Celtics

August 08 07

ESPN reports that Reggie Miller might trade the broadcast booth for a reserve role with the Boston Cetlics:

Reggie Miller says he is contemplating a return to the NBA, this time with the Boston Celtics.

Miller, who turns 42 on Aug. 24, played his entire 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers before retiring in 2005. Since his playing days ended he has worked as a television analyst for TNT.

Miller was all set to continue that job when Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers asked him to think about joining their revamped team in a reserve role, playing about 15 minutes per game.

Miller said he is calling friends and peers, seeking their advice and listening to their feedback before he makes his decision. He still plays recreationally, but must determine if he wants to go through the physical and mental grind of an 82-game season. He also wonders how his body would respond to the intensive training it would take to get him back to NBA shape.

My Quick Take: I can see it. Twenty thousand fans on their feet in the Boston Gardens chanting: "Reggie, Reggie, Reggie." Spike Lee, supporting his beloved Knicks in their playoff battle against the Celtics, is courtside, cussing out Reggie Miller.

Okay, I’ll stop dreaming of 1993. The Boston Gardens doesn’t exist anymore. And Miller, if he returned to the Celtics, would only suit up for 15-20 minutes a game. But a comeback makes sense for Miller and the storied green-and-white.

Why Miller Is Thinking Comeback:

The Big Ticket, Jesus Shuttlesworth, and The Truth. Miller realizes Boston’s outstanding trio plays in the Eastern Conference and could advance to the NBA Finals. The only thing missing from Miller’s resume: an NBA Title.

Why Boston is Asking Miller to Consider A Comeback:

The Celtics need some other pieces to complement their big three. Problem is they have limited money and a limited free agent pool to pick from. Miller, even at 42-years old, can contribute on a part-time basis. He can spread the floor with his shot and his clutch play still puts fear in the hearts of opponents. Miller would also come cheap.

Random Thoughts on Miller’s Comeback:
  • This idea isn’t far-fetched. A few years back, Miller considered a comeback with the Mavericks. He’s never been injured and retired near the top of his game.
  • What happens to Miller’s spot with Charles, Kenny, Ernie and the entire TNT broadcast crew?

4 me his return would be very interesting. I’m just worried about that training issue that Reggie said. I’d love to see him back & even more to see him helping celtics to reach high spot in the eastern this season. Final with celtics isn’t close to reality I think but it would be beautifull though. Just imagine low table boston with Reggie & the ring \1 .
