The Best Big Man Dunker Ever: Shawn Kemp or Dwight Howard?

The AM Take: On Friday afternoon, I cracked a cold one, flicked on the television, and got hit with a mid-nineties flashback. My guys, Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, had taken over Fox’s The Best Damn Sports Show.

It got me thinking. Not long ago, the Sonics were more than a toy for some evil suits from Oklahoma City. Led by The Glove and Reign Man, Seattle was a dominant western power, even pushing Jordan’s classic Chicago side to six games during the 1996 NBA Finals.

Payton and Kemp were also joined on-air by former coach George Karl. Together, the three reminisced on their time in the Emerald City. The entire show was intriguing, but the highlight was Kemp claiming he’s the best big man dunker of all time -better than current Slam Dunk champ Dwight Howard.

Looking at his highlights, he could be right. Notice I said could be. Of course, HoopsVibe The Blog had to settle the title of best big man dunker with a Kemp-Howard head-to-head.

I spent many a days in the driveway on a 8 foot hoop trying to dunk like kemp, howard is good but not like the reignman. .

we might never see some one like kemp again, he was something else. i remember one dunk in particular, against the lakers, he got the rebound and went coast to coast, fast as lightening for a big man. .

If you observe carefully....youll notice that Dwight hard-slams it...but the true legend (Kemp)....slams it down with so much force......But dwight does deserve the title ’supaman’...hes earned it fair and square .

man, they are both sweet it’s hard to tell. i’d have to go with kemp though as he ruled for years and howard is just taking over now. give it a couple of years to see if he can keep up with what skinny shawn kemp did!! .

What kind of question is that ?????????????????Kemp definetly !! every true basketball fan know thats kemp!Howard is huge but kemp was a real monster .

shawn kemp, rainman, manchild, jordan ones quated besides himself, shawn kemp is the most athletic athlete hes ever played against, damm those mid 90 shwn kemp ruled the planet when it came to dunks especially in game time. .

I forgot how great of a dunk Kemp was. So explosive and agile for a 6’10 guy. Definitely a better dunker. .
