Utah Jazz’s Carlos Boozer Could Miss Training Camp With Sick Son

September 27 07

The Associated Press reports on Carlos Boozer missing training camp because of a personal tragedy:

Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer could miss training camp next week while his son recovers from a bone-marrow transplant in Miami.

Camp starts Tuesday and runs through Oct. 6 in Boise, Idaho.

As soon as my son is home from the hospital and stable, I will join my teammates," Boozer said in a statement released by the team Thursday. "Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by me and my family during this time."

My Quick Take: Recently, two separate tragedies have hit the Utah Jazz family. Derek Fisher’s daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer. Fisher, of course, had to move on from the Jazz, so his daughter could get treatment. Now Boozer’s son is having a bone marrow transplant.

My thoughts go out to Boozer and his family. It’s hard to bring this back to basketball. I hope some NBA players, especially those ’disgruntled’ superstars, take a moment to appreciate what they have.
