When NBA Coaches Snap, Featuring: Stan Van Gundy, Avery Johnson, Mike D’Antoni, Phil Jackson & George Karl

December 26 07

Stan Van Gundy is easy to like. The honest sideline boss had every right to slag Pat Riley after his former mentor replaced him on the Heat bench two seasons ago.

But he kept quiet, collected his salary, and waited for his next opportunity. Last summer, Orlando, after getting ditched by Florida’s Billy Donovan, hired Van Gundy to lead their young stars and add credibility to the franchise.

The Magic, after a fast start, are starting to struggle. And Van Gundy made national headlines for these comments following a recent loss.

But SVG is not alone. Other coaches-even those with nice guy reputations-have snapped at the end-of-game proceedings. Let’s take a look at NBA bench-bosses who have gotten a little testy with reporters and even each other …

1) Avery Johnson, Dallas Mavericks: ’Don’t stutter’.

2) Mike D’Antoni-Phil Jackson, Suns-Lakers:The timeout’.

3) George Karl on Isiah Thomas: ’He’s a total bleep’.
